Not really - if anything, it helps identify the building you should be more cognizant of.
You really want to send Canadian troops into a Muslim war zone unable to instantly and correctly identify the mosque?
Seems like a sure fire way to damage the mosque and enrage the locals even further.

I reckon the "Mosque" is the sea container with the gold dome on it.
So yeah "Mosque".

Nice slant on the thread title. Holy moly.
Right right, no slant, it’s what the “army commander” said.

I actually was initially outraged (why do they need a crescent), but after seeing the photos, I think it makes perfect sense.
If you were going into a place like Afghanistan you need to know what the function of each building in a town is. Is that hospital? school? place of worship? etc...All of these buildings serve different purposes and would need to be dealt with differently in an urban combat situation. The fact that the places of worship are identified by a dome is important.
I would not want armed military troops entering a town and just using blunt force on each and every building they saw.

If you're training someone to go to a far away land, you want to make the buildings as accurate as possible so its easy to identify them quickly. If they're training for Afghanistan for example the predominant structure is going to be a mosque. If we're training to attack the Russians, you'd probably build a Russian church with accurate markings.
This isn't about some kind of anti-religion or racist desire, its about making the battlefield simulation as accurate as possible to speed up decision making and avoid mistakes.
The picture shows a mockup of a possible village in Afghanistan. So its training for overseas.

Same reason we have mock ups of a Ukrainian village. You train for the fight you expect.

We trained to fight the soviets, so we had the range targets with the huge red star on them and very slavic looking facial features.
As well, we learned to identify tanks and APC's of russian design. Though we never did train for urban combat for some reason.
In our excercise briefs and communications we referred to the Soviet Union as the Peoples Republic of the Red Star.

Does it change all the explanations you have been given? So they have more than one training area.

If this involved artillary practice, I'm asking for a time on target on the Porta Potty row.

I think the question people should be asking is, why are there so many porta poties in Afghanistan?
