Myself and my husband went to Locke this year. I was complicated in that I hadn't filed for 5 years and was owing the last time I filed. Happy to say that although worst case scenarios danced in my head, I should be getting a small refund. In addition, my husband is getting the biggest return he's ever had as well. Very satisfied and hopefully Locke gets even more new clients out of the deal as we have been spreading the word.

Friendly reminder, the deadline is Thursday April 30th.

Fun fact: CRA sent out a notice on Friday that tax season was extended to May 5th. They rescinded that today so it does end on April 30th.

Why had they extended it temporarily? CRA being the CRA?

Its common when April 30th falls on a weekend, but this year its Thursday so I was kind of surprised when I got the notice last Friday and then get another notice on yesterday telling me to disregard that previous announcement.

They probably thought they'd go over but then got whipped by the powers that be.

CRA Blunder Forces Tax Deadline Extension:

“Due to human error, an incorrect notification was sent around to tax preparers on Friday,” Rebecca Rogers, director of communications for Revenue Minister Kerry-Lynne Findlay, told the Globe and Mail.

The notice mistakenly stated that “All returns transmitted electronically up until 3:00 a.m., Eastern Time, Tuesday May 5, 2015, will be considered as filed on time.”

By Monday, the CRA issued a new notice, to say that, as usual, returns were due at the latest at midnight, April 30.

“Please ignore the April 24th message related to this topic,” the CRA said in an online update.

“Minister Findlay has made it clear that this incorrect information is unacceptable and therefore she has directed her officials to ensure no Canadians are penalized for the CRA’s error‎,” Ms. Rogers said.

Does this apply to anyone doing their own taxes? Or is it still the 30th?

But if you haven't filed, don't expect many preparers to be enthused about working too hard after the 30th. Most have put in mega-hours and have plans to reacquaint themselves with friends and family this weekend.

I know. I actually had plans. Needless to say my wife is less than pleased about this. Plans I tell you!

the system should be up on the 15th at like 6am providing nothing goes wrong this weekend with the updates to change everything over to the near year.

Haha! I do indeed.

Granted, not everyone is texting me at home at 10pm.
