Ultimately it doesn't but it's nice when a player starts to sew roots here and becomes part of the community. Having the captain in the summers might entice more guys to spend their off-season training for a portion as well.

What tangible value is there to them training in Calgary over another location?

Altitude.

... and the chance to train with superstar defenseman and fitness beast Mark Giordano.

Great to see Gio landing in Calgary permanently - definitely support someone with his attitude landing in the Flames organization post-playing career

I won't blame him 1 second for disappearing to Kelowna during the summers - that place is heaven for NHL players June-August

Edit: Any anyone with a few million $ kicking around

Remember when an exceedingly abrasive poster joined in the middle of the Johnny holdout?

I got a bad feeling about this.

This would make it awkward to leave him unprotected in the expansion draft.

Likely closer to total insanity than nonsense.

I assume if Tkachuk suddenly announces he intends to move to Calgary his price tag goes up?

Gio's decision applies zero pressure to Tkachuk.

You are kind of right. He was in Calgary usually until school ended. JULY-AUG he spent at the lake. Regardless this is a huge thing for he Flames

It would make it awkward for Seattle to claim him in the expansion draft.
