I think it is too early in training camp though. When the bloat is reduced, I guess we will see if chemistry develops, or some of these PTOs stand out

I didn't know much about Rieder so I paid attention to him during his shifts last night.
He looks like James Neal without the puck. Lost. Skating around. Also reminded me of James Neal with the puck, fumbling and on the verge of panic mode. Not making good decisions. Hanging on too long or trying to force a low % pass.
Now maybe he has to learn the system but the other guys looked much better positionally than he did but watching him made me scream hard pass.
DSP and Rinaldo weren't bad. I could see one or both making a case.

I say none. Would rather give Quine and someone else the 13th/14th spot on the forwards and MacDonald was probably insurance in the case that Stone was not going to re-sign with us.

Quine is way worse than most of these guys... he's a good farmhand and an ok callup but I'd prefer the Flames be able to turn to 2 or 3 guys before him.

I want DSP to make it but my gut tells me it will be one of Rinaldo or Reider.

If nothing else, some of them will likely get AHL or two-way contracts and start the season in Stockton. They still need warm bodies down there.

Yeah, my vote was based on them getting a contract with the assumption that they would be down in the AHL.

Can't really base my opinion mostly from one single split-squad game, plus the expected platitudes that coaches lay on most PTOs. However, MacDonald looked fairly solid and defensive depth is always welcomed. Rinaldo actually helps this team be a faster and tougher team to play against - I always knew he was a strong skater, but his speed impressed me, and we all know he plays on that edge.
Reider I wanted to work out, and it just might, but I doubt it. Even if he picks up some scoring touch, I don't really see it as a need with Dube, Mangiapane and even Phillips looking like he could benefit from NHL time. Even Pelletier is looking like a player that could stick, though I bet he gets sent back.
DSP I found lacking in all areas, and was surprised his hit count was that high. I thought he would have come out with a bit more jump.
Then again, this is such a small sample size against mostly AHL'ers. DSP and Reider could both look outstanding next game, while Rinaldo and MacDonald turn in terrible performances.
I just like Rinaldo's speed - I can see that he can really be a useful piece to disrupt the oppositions break-outs, and force defencemen to back up if he keeps using his speed. That's about it. I do think one of them will be signed.

I don't want this to be true, but Zac Rinaldo. Nothing personal against the guy, he's just low skill. However, the team still lacks some secondary toughness, energy, and pest-like qualities. Lomberg has those traits, but he's not an NHL quality player. Rinaldo is the perfect popcorn muncher to come in when the team needs a bit more energy and toughness.
Nobody else really stands out. MacDonald might make it if he's okay playing in the AHL most of the year, but I don't see that happening.

To be fair, Rinaldo is not an NHL quality player either.
Basically just playing a faster Bollig with either Rinaldo or Lomberg in an NHL lineup.

I don't think any have been outright terrible but they haven't beat the guys that the need too for jobs.
Yet, I mean it's been one split squad game.

Zac Rinaldo, who I think slots into the 4th line as a Hathaway replacement alongside Janko and Mangiapane.
Jankowski will probably lose his regular lineup spot to Dube though and get traded. Czarnik as the lone extra forward due to cap constraints.
I do think Reider will sign a 2 way but start in the AHL - he is probably the Tkachuk Contingency Plan and I don't think Chucky will let a holdout drag out into the season.
If we do see him pull a Nylander, move Bennett into his usual spot and everyone else gets bumped up one, and Reider gets signed the eve of the regular season.

I think Andy McDonald is an every day NHLer. I think Smith-Pelley is inconsistent, but when he's "on" he can play with the best of them.
Best of luck to everyone else.

I went over to hockeyfights to check on Rinaldo. He doesn't pick his spots. That's for sure. Thorburn. Ferland. Manson. He didnt fare well in alot of them, but doesnt back down.

Only MacDonald. The Flames trade Brodie for a forward and sign Tkachuk. Dube also provides depth. I can see maybe another guy getting a AHL type deal but only MacDonald on the big roster.
Giordano-Andersson
Hanifin-Hamonic
Kylington-Stone
MacDonald.
