Haha, Shantz was definetly one of my faves from that era... but considering that era, it's not exactly saying much.

Close between Backlund and Yelle. I went with Yelle for consistency reasons. He played hard and was a premiere shutdown player every night. Backlund will look great for half a season and then look like one of the worst contracts in hockey the other half.

4 good choices IMO - MacMillan, Patterson, Yelle, Backlund. 690 games played for Backlund, so I vote for him.

This was an easy choice in Backlund, but that isn't meant to take away from the other solid choices.

MacMillan was a good player, and part of the McDonald trade.

Yelle will always be a key player from that heart and soul 2004 team.

Patterson to me was so key. It's easy to look past his numbers, but as we see with Monahan and Gaudreau of late, finding that key third player is tough to do with skill players. Colin Patterson was the defenseive conscious, but could also keep offensive players going forward. Great player and great dude.

Three different eras. Patter and Sandbox warrant serious merit, but Backs is the man.

Bobby MacMillan won the Lady Bing with 109 points.
There aren't too many Flames to win major awards. No one else on this list did.
In the playoff run of 1981, MacMillan got 14 points in 16 games.

Backlund is a close second in the group, but his playoff record isn't very good and he has never won a major award or is likely to.

Maybe it's just me but I don't consider the Lady Bing to be a major award. Also, I think Backlund being in consideration for the Selke is a more difficult feat than winning the Lady Bing... I am very biased though, I did not watch the Flames when MacMillan played.

Almost gave it to Yelle. Guy was a champion. But Backlund has cemented himself in Flames history the last few seasons.
