Not a fan of the term. Treliving got caught up in an assumed bidding war. When will Treliving be held accountable for his UFA busts?
Don’t sign UFA 30 year olds of this caliber to 6 year deals.

If Coleman hits +50 pts, that will be sensational value. This is second-line money for a second-line player, which should net about 0.5 pts/GP.

If a bidding war got him to sign at 4.9 instead of 6m a year, Tree won. 6 years isn't a big deal IMO. Not as bad as other signings.

Don't like the contract for the player. Hopefully we have a Montreal like run in the next 3 years.

Fantastic two-way player with heart and grit. Puts up good points, practically all 5-on-5.
His numbers are great especially when you consider he had 0 powerplay time.
|
That is great.
And one would assume he sees some PP2 time here, which could mean some added production.

About the same time he gets credit for UFA wins (Tanev, Markstrom).

Montreal got ####kicked in the Cup Final. Is that our aspiration?

For a team that is looking to win games 2-1, I think this signing makes sense.
Plus, if the rumors are true that he was contacting people on the Flames (presumably Johnny) to get the inside scoop on what it's like to play in Calgary and under Sutter, hopefully that bodes well for a Gaudreau extension.
As I mentioned in the earlier thread, Coleman and Gaudreau played on a line together (not sure how long) at the 2018 World Championships so there is some history there.

Montreal lost. I'd rather have a Tampa Bay run in the next 3 years.

Do people really consider the Markstrom contract to be a win?

Not going to pretend I know much about Coleman, but from what I’m reading I’m happy they got him. But how lucky are we to have Lindy on his contract when you compare it to some of these UFA contracts?

Love the player, and excited to see him play under Sutter. Not a big fan of the term though. Hopefully his strong defensive play carries through as he ages, even if his offence falls off so he ends the contract overpaid, but not a liability.

They are decent signings. But then he has mental breakdowns and ####s the bed on a number of others. His track record is mediocre like Calgary results on the ice.

So...if Coleman is worth 6x 4.9 I guess Tkachuk and Johnny are both worth 9m + longterm, considering age and open market. Man I hope he's good or at least doesn't become deadweight.

Are they not considered middle 6 players?
I wouldn't consider any of them top line players. Oshie definitely is not and wasn't Killorn scratched during the playoffs?
I didn't think powerplay time bumped their status. Compared to their teammates, I'd label them middle 6.
Age was not a factor in the original statement.

He provides top 6F scoring (2nd line) WITH grit, character and skill.
Flames need more of this type of player in their lineup.
Of course he is marginally overpaid with a year or 2 more term. No acquisition cost.

So this makes you think he’s been not “held accountable”?
