You could go to a movie every weekend and not see a superhero film. There hasn't been a Marvel movie since July now.

The Handmaiden is great, but I couldn't get through it without a furious wank. Trigger warning for those that like hot hot hot lesbian action.

Nice, planning on watching it this weekend, glad to hear it's good.

Whenever I come by this thread I see the text below the header that reads “Hereditary is the worst recent movie I can remember seeing” and I’ve never been so firm in disagreeing.

Hereditary is one of the greatest horror films ever made and perhaps the best one of the 21st century. It will stand the test of time and still be looked at fondly generations from now.

It has scenes about grief, shock, mental illness and alienation from family that are as good as any Oscar winning drama. Toni Collette was awesome. What more do people want in a horror film?

Maybe the above mentioned touches didn’t jive with the supernatural plot and seemed ridiculous to some, but it’s a horror movie, of course you gotta suspend disbelief.

This movie made my skin crawl like only a few horror movies ever have. It was uncomfortable and horrifying. I highly recommend it.

I watched Parasite last weekend. Loved it, but I wonder if I will love it as much upon repeat viewings. The first half might be a bit repetitive after knowing the plans the family have up their sleeve. I can’t say whether or not that will be the case but the thought did enter my mind. Either way, I do want to watch it again and I think the Best Picture Oscar was well deserved. I laughed a lot and it was so refreshingly original of a film that it would be hard not to enjoy it. I can’t wait for Bong Joon- Ho’s next film.

This weekend I watched 1917. I am so sick and tired of war films but I knew I had to see this one because of Sam Mendes and Roger Deakins. The oscars they picked up were well deserved. The scene when the plane is crashing made my jaw drop. The town set on fire is one of the most beautiful and frightening shots I’ve seen in a movie. If hell existed I’d imagine it would look a lot like that. I was so immersed in the journey right off the bat. It was a remarkable achievement and I’m so glad I saw it on the big screen

If you haven’t seen either of these, hurry up and make sure you see them in the theatre.

Also watched Sonic the Hedgehog last week. I’m sorry, I wanted to like it but I cannot recommend. All the story beats have been done before with other movies. It only had a few chuckles here and there but no big laughs. If it didn’t have Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik it might have been a complete waste of my time.

Also, if you want a much better and funnier movie where James Marsden interacts with a cgi animal then I’d say Hop is a way better movie. That had a lot more laughs than this one and is something I’d throw on for the kids around Easter time. I don’t think I’ll ever watch Sonic again. I don’t want to sound too harsh because it’s not bad by any means and a lot of people will probably like it. For me it was meh.

Re: Hereditary. The horror genre is really several different genres: teen slasher, ridiculous B-movie; body horror/gross-out, psychological horror. And since audiences arrive with dramatically different expectations, they can be very disappointed at a film like Hereditary, which is nothing at all like a slasher or B-movie horror. That's why some still consider the Exorcist to be scariest movie of all time, while audiences accustomed to a faster pace or jump scares wonder what all the fuss is about.

For me, Hereditary was the scariest movie I've seen in over 20 years. But then, I'm not a fan of most modern horror movies.

My kids loved Sonic the Hedgehog. I did not. That’s the way it should be, I think.

Hereditary definitely stayed with me after I saw it. I still flashback to certain scenes and get chills. That, to me, is the mark of a good horror story.

The problem is the ####ty way that it ended. I dislike the last 1/3 of the movie so much that I’m sure I’ll never watch it again.

Watched Midway last night and couldn't finish it. I though Pearl Harbour was bad, this was 10 times worse. So sad because as kid I loved pacific theatre ww2 stuff. Model Corsairs and Hellcats. Baa Baa Blacksheep was one of my favorite shows.

Not a single redeeming thing about this movie. Acting was bad, dialogue was bad, cgi was bad, colour palatte(or what ever you call it) was bad. Every thing was bad.

Do not watch. You've been warned.

Finally got through watching Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I wasn't as a big a fan as others. Took me 3 viewings to get through it. I found it interesting to start, then boring in the middle. Finally picked up near the end with the narration and action scene.

I guess it was decent but I certainly never found it as hilarious or engrossing as others have said. Strange since I'm a Tarantino fan.

Brad Pitt was great. As was the dog.

Overall, meh. Don't feel like I would have missed much if I never saw it.

Yeah that makes a good deal more sense to me.

Oooh The Handmaiden.

I agree with you here. Hereditary was so terrifying I couldn't breathe at certain parts.

Slap Shot came out in theatres 43 years ago today, still the best hockey movie of all time and one of the best sports movies ever.
