Icon25 Avs extend Francouz (2 years, $2 million AAV)

Could help set the market for a Talbot extension

Talbot isn't taking $750k less just to get some term I don't think

Does Talbot's play and the market dictate he deserves more? Francouz is a pretty solid comparable play-wise, and he would have been a UFA.

Francouz is 21-14-5 with a 2.44 and a .923

Talbot is 9-9-1 with a 2.77 and a .917

@Toonage No but it just helps to see a baseline figure, Francouz is comparable in basically every way except past NHL experience

Based on this deal I could maybe see Talbot taking $3 x 2

He'll be a UFA. He's playing quite well. If the Flames want to retain him it will be beyond $2.75M that he's at now and I'll bet he can get that on the market or at least will try.

Why does Talbot get more when Francouz is better? Just more experience? Not sure I'd agree with that.

Because the body of evidence is pretty thin on Francouz? 26 NHL games.

Remember when the Flames signed Turek to a big contract after 17 games of great play?

Yeah but Talbot was also terrible last season, so he has only played 17 games as a Flame during his return to form.

That's ignoring the almost 200 games Turek had before though

Talbot's had 1 bad season and one mediocre one, out of 8. Both with a particularly no good team. I'd say the odds are pretty good that he's a good goalie overall. I'm certainly more comfortable saying that than with a guy who's played 26 games total.

Yeah, but after those 200 games, he was not rehired. I think the Flames got overexcited about the winning streak he had. There really wasn't a need to do it then and there. That said, I think it reinforces my point about Francouz

I find it interesting this extension was done just before the trade deadline.

I keep hearing rumblings Price is going to Colorado.

Habs trading a goalie to Colorado always works out well.

Yeah Montreal had to move a goalie and Theo was odd man out.
I think he averaged under .900 save % for his years there.
