I was at the game and my seats are right beside the pressbox runway..
After the 6-0 goal I saw Treliving storm out of the pressbox and was b-lining it to wherever. He was trying to get to where he was going ASAP..
I could tell he was pissed.
Having said all that I'm not willing to throw Neal under the bus just yet.. Smith on the other hand has been noticeably bad all season aside from one night in Nashville.
Goaltending and poor team defense is destroying this team right now..
How can you ask Valimaki if he learned anything from the pressbox tonight?
Pathetic.
Still 72 games to go so I'm not ready to jump ship yet but this needs to change fast.

I found another correlation.
Just stop letting the boys go to Cowboys after games.

I really wasn't expecting Neal to struggle like he has so far.

I still have hope for Neal, but I surely believe he needs to pick up the pace. Show this leadership which you were brought in for.
As for Smith, I was hesitant last year and was surprised at how good he played prior to his injury. Since then, I have very little faith in him anymore. For example in the NHL, there are only a handful of teams with a starter worse or on par with Smith.
Buffalo - Carter Hutton
NYI - Robin Lehner
Vancouver - Maarkstrom
Philadelphia - Elliot
Hurricanes - Darling(when healthy)
Ottawa - Anderson
So at best Smith is the 25th best starter in the league. Every other goalie on the other teams not listed, I would take over Mike Smith. From this list above, he is not any better than the other goalies, so he could essentially fall between the 25th to the 31st as far as starters. This is a risk Brad took and he must be accountable for it, if Smith doesn't pick up his play.
I am not angry now, and still have hope for this team. Or maybe I am just no longer shocked with the Flames anymore. When you are a diehard fan of what has become a loser/mediocre franchise, nothing surprises me. What would surprise me is consistent play which would lead to a winning organization. Oh how I miss the 80s flames.

definitely was concerned about the goaltending with the way smith played at the end of last year, but figured it might be lingering issues due to the injury...
that said, outside of couple of stretches in games, smith hasn't looked very good this year... was very surprised he wasn't pulled after the 4? goal where he looked like he might have hurt something.
at this point in time, calgary really needs to see if Rittich can carry a heavier load, and if not, they should be seeing if they can trade for someone... i don't think the flames can afford to have smith starting 65+ games.

This is Mike Smith's 14th NHL season. He has played over 500 games.
I really doubt he has much input from the goalie coach. The goalie coach probably gives him a few suggestions and Smith can try it if he wants to.

I agree.
The logic of how you came to the conclusion that that was anyone's argument doesn't follow.

When does Sigalet get fired?
Time to promote the guy from Stockton IMO.

I'm sorry, the vibe I got was "he's still here, thus he's contributing positively and criticisms are totally unwarranted"
That reasoning isn't satisfactory.

Wouldn't Rittich be Mclennan?
And Smith (Phoenix) is Turek (st Louis)
So who is Kipper (san jose)?
Leading candidates is Philipp Grubauer. Now what do we have to give up for him? I will say a defenseman - but which one?

Smith was never that good to begin with. Before coming to the Flames, he only had 3 seasons where he played enough games to be considered a true starting goalie. Maybe arbitrary, but I use at least 60 games to be the benchmark for a 1A goalie. And now he is old. His 4.10 GAA and 0.866 SA% this season so far is gross.
I think Neal will come around, but he needs the ice-time to be effective.
