He seems to wear out his welcome in a couple seasons.

Definitely a team coach Q would consider.

He seems good enough to make the playoffs then lose the team within a year or two. He will be a head coach again one day but like Gulutzan he probably shouldn't.

As long as they don't bring back Hitchcock and that stupid annoying trap Pietrangelo and Backes were so good at.

Why not? This is exactly what we want them to do. Relieve McLellan and hire their assistant/associate (Gulutzan).

Thought it was a bad hire when they hired him. And, he had a year under Hitch I think to learn a thing or two about a thing or two. doubt he gets a HC job any time soon.

Coaching is far from their problem anyway. I actually think they are playing above their ability right now. Their depth is absolutely terrible. The drop off on talent is horrific after their top 3. When Chiasson is your 4th leading scoring, that is a problem. And I like Chiasson as a depth player, but not a key player.

Their defense is even worse. Not to mention that Talbot is an average starting goalie at best. Koskinen looks like he could be a good one, but he needs more seasoning.

I know Dave Tippett is an adviser with the Seattle group, but I wonder if he has an out

He was a training camp guest coach with the Blues a year ago, and was Armstrong's first coaching hire in Dallas

Don't think Tippett is interested in coaching anymore. He said this in LeBrun's podcast a week ago.

Quote:
Tippett: Tod and I, Tod Leiweke (President and CEO of the Seattle group) and I have been talking about a kind of a longer term commitment here so it’ll be an upper management role on the team that won’t be, you know we talked about coaching, he said don’t take it off the table when we came here, but I kind of feel like I’ve gone the other direction from that and, if I wanted to coach, I could probably be coaching already. But I’m enjoying what I’m doing so I’m going to stay in Seattle and it’ll be some kind of an executive management role within the team.

I LOVE "The Chief"!! Initiated arguably the greatest brawl in Flames history.

Hope he does well as HC. Glad he's had a long coaching career too.

I would've thought that Q would be who they want in St. Louis but if the did, they probably wouldn't have named Berube as the interim, as I'm sure the leadership group has talked about relieving Yeo already and if Q was a consideration, would've talked to him by now and named him the replacement tonight.

Sucks from my point of view because it simply leaves the Oilers as an option for Q if they fire their coach.

Chief was a member of the Flames when I joined this message board.

Happy to see him back as a head coach. Wish him the best.

Koskinen is 30 years old and has 10 years of experience in men's leagues. I think he's ready. The Oilers will definitely find a way to ruin him though. I hope he manages to escape, he could be quite good I think.

This should have happened a couple weeks ago. As is, STL will be in tough to turn this thing around this year.
