I would only move Celebrini for 2nd, 14, and next year's unprotected 1st. Which is such an overpay it would never happen

Oh man could you imagine if they won the lottery and didn't take the player with the best shot at giving them the true elite #1C they've been seeking for like 30 years or so?

Celebrini all day please

I don't think the discussion she be around what to do if we win the 1st OA. The real discussion is if we win the 2OA.

Yeah, that would be a hell of a deal. Imagine getting a Misa/McQueen next year in addition to whatever the Flames would pick 2nd, 14th and 29th.

Would even go a step further, 2nd for 3rd/4th and 20th from Chicago. Or 2nd for 3rd/4th and 24th from Anaheim.

Celebrini for sure. If the Flames won the 2nd pick it does get more interesting, and I would consider a move down as I think there will be a large tier of players to choose from.

San Jose, in their efforts to secure the 'local' kid makes you an offer: 2nd/3rd & 14th overall for the 1st pick.

Would you:
-Pick the sure thing in Celebrini?
-Take the 2nd & 14th, hoping to grab two high end players instead of 1?

Looking back historically, would you rather have:
-2023: Bedard or Fantilli & Yager?
-2022: Slavkovsky or Cooley & McGroarty?
-2021: Power or McTavish & Rosen?
-2020: Lafreniere or Stutzle & Holloway?
-2019: J. Hughes or Dach & York?

Clearly it depends on the year. Is Celebrini a Hughes or a Lafreniere? How high is the high-end depth in this draft?
You take Celbrini. He's the clear best prospect. The odds say you are likely to end up with the best player choosing the BPA. That's what you do. Don't pull a Feaster. No GM is smarter than the consensus picks of all of the scouts.

Your "historical" table only works with the benefit of hindsight. Yes, it'd be great to, several years, later swap your pick for the best pick on the board. Not the way it works. Laf and Slavkovzky haven't lived up to their potential (yet anyways). That doesn't mean you should throw away the advantage of having the best scouted prospect habitually.

If the flames win their first ever 1oa pick, they have to make it. There is no trade possible.

Just take the elite player.

If Calgary finally wins a lottery (by Bettmans hand for getting an arena or through divine intervention) it's their sign to take the gift and not overcomplicate this.

That kid better not try to bolt for the Bay Area in 6 years though.

This is all moot because the Flames are never going to win the lottery even once for any reason whatsoever.

Edmonton should have swapped their 1OA in 2011 for the 58th and 104th picks.

I would make the pick. It would take a ridiculously good trade offer for me to trade that pick away.

I took the bait and looked up which players those were.
Even with hindsight, Oiler fans would still keep it the same.

This scenario would never happen but it would have to be 2nd oa + william smith for 1st oa straight up to even consider it.

In this case there is a clear cut number 1 so you keep that pick if you are lucky to get it.

So what you're saying is if we win the lottery, we need to petition the NHL to hold the draft on a Sunday.

Depends on what you think you get at two? I think Buium could be the second best player in the draft. Star first defender would take him over demidov. Lets say you get hage or greentree and they pan out. Top six eing or second line center. One draft could feature a star defencemen and a second line center compared to a star center?

I would think about it i think buium is going to be a star. However so could Parehk? Or Dickinson? End of the day probably go with the surefire star center but I like buium a lot.

Would you trade a franchise center for a top dman and 2C? I don’t think I would. Value is probably about the same but we’ve seen how impossible it is to get that true 1C

Make the Celebrini pick. No doubt. If Conroy really wants another top 15 pick after drafting Celebrini, I think he could package Andersson + Vancouver’s 2024 1st round pick to the right trade partner… which I would prefer.

Depends on how top you think the defencemen is. I think both buium and parehk could be stars?

Star center ? Star defencemen plus?

Tough call but agree with another poster a center is soooo difficult to find.
