Hey Connor, it's George Dano! Put one in the win column
(sorry, it's my first GDT and not sure how to embed twitter)

Oilers will rest Smith the next two games for sure. They are not helping the Flames.

If they happen to win whatever but I'm not cheering for them.

I think the Oilers will want to come out and beat them tonight. If that happens it’s wed game I think we’ll see some resting. Montreal plays us hard usually, so I think the Oilers want to prove something.

I think they will try hard.
They are far more interested in getting McLottery to 2 points per game this season. That is the kind of glory that lives forever.
When he hit 100 pts, r/hockey was full of Oiler fans (and others) saying stupid ass #### like this is the single greatest achievement since Wayne's 215 point season (nevermind those seasons by Mario, Jagr, etc), even some Oiler fans saying this is the pinnacle of their Oiler fandom.
McDavid getting to 112 points is their Stanley Cup.

God, this is what it's come to. A GDT about hoping the Oilers beat the Sens. Sad (no offence OP).

even if the Habs lose both, there's no way the Flames are winning 4 in a row.

Figures. Just string us along for as long as possible before the boot.
TBF it's what I would want positions reversed.

Habs have played the Oilers well this year and if they win both there is a good chance they leap Winnipeg and would play the Oilers in the first round. Edmonton would almost certainly rather play Winnipeg where their elite talent can feast on that weak blueline.
Edmonton will ultimately do what they think is best for their team before the playoffs. They will rest guys if they feel they need to.
As Johnny said last night. Gotta hope Connor does his thing and they get 2 wins in regulation starting tonight

Yeah, but if they were to lose both, it certainly makes for some compelling viewing.

I hope the Oilers win but something embarrassing happens in the game that overshadows the victory

I'm so conflicted. I've never cheered for the Oilers, ever. And yet here we are. This truly is the darkest timeline.

I cheered for the Oil in 2008 when their win eliminated the Canucks from the playoffs and clinched it for the Flames. Instead of game 82 becoming a win and your in showdown between the Flames and Nucks it turned into a 7-1 Flames beat down where Iggy scored his 50th and it was Linden’s last game.
I remember being with another buddy who was a Flames fan and a Canucks fan and we were over the top cheering for the Oil that game just so the Flames could back into the playoffs which was the norm from 07-09

If they lose I hope Oilers experience the ‘backing into the playoffs’ curse.

I never look at it as cheering for the Oilers to win. It's cheering for the other team to lose.

It would be so Oilers to let this go into OT, then Connor going beast mode on 3v3.

I expect MTL to lose both. Then the Flames would win 3 in a row. They will start the last game of the season with a 3-0 lead, only to lose 4-3 in OT… or be blown out 7-3. I love being a Flames fan!

If the Jets beat the Canucks tonight, I believe they clinch the 3rd seed. So the 2nd Oilers-Habs game in that scenario would have no implications on the Oilers playoff opponent regardless of the result today between Edmonton-Montreal. I do agree with you though (especially if Price comes back), that Montreal would be a more difficult opponent in round 1.
Koskinen has been told he will play 1 of the 2 games in Montreal.
Tkachuk and Gaudreau were quoted in "rooting for Edmonton" and "hoping Connor can do his thing" so wanting the Oilers to win today doesn't make Flames fans less of Flames fans. You cheer for what is good for your team.
Here's to an Oiler win (in OT)!
