It's because there is only one puck on the ice while the game is being played.

I'd say Sweden is the favorite here, and it's not even close.

So proud that Team GB made it to the top pool but this could be a bloodbath, especially as we are in the same group as Canada and the USA!! Both of those could probably play without a goalie and still beat us.

Sweden's best forward points-wise is Elias Lindholm. They also have Petterson and Nylander. They have seven non NHL players on the team (8 counting Adam Larsson). They have a respectable team full of middling players. Canada is better on paper and I don't think much of Canada's team.

I think the US has a terrific group of forwards. Kane, Gaudreau, Debrincat, Eichel, Larkin, Keller. They are a little thinner on D and goal. And 3 Flames has to count for something right?

Russia is arguably even better up front with Malkin, Ovie, Kuznetsov, Kucherov, Anisimov, Kovalchuk. And they have Vasilevsky in goal.

As for Gaudreau, for a guy that seems to constantly tail-off at the end of the season with his production.. I hope this can help him improve his fitness level or something.
Gaudreau should finally eat his veggies.

Hockey Canada announced Thursday that Team Canada forward John Tavares (Oakville, Ont./Toronto, NHL) will miss the 2019 IIHF World Championship with an oblique injury.

“We are disappointed that John will not be able to participate as a member of Team Canada at the 2019 IIHF World Championship, but after contacting the Toronto Maple Leafs we agreed it was best for him to return home for further evaluation,” said Jason Botterill, a member of the management group for Canada’s National Men’s Team. “We know John was excited about the opportunity to wear the Maple Leaf once again, and we were excited to have John as a member of our team and to welcome his many years of NHL and international experience.”

Pretty even game. Both goalies were good, although not overly tested.

Hey have a little faith, a lot of you whipper snapper punks don't remember the 1936 winter Olympics when a steely eyed young Captain named Carl Erhardt and a unknown goalie named James Cooper (Scottish) stonewalled a Canadian team lead by a bunch of Canadian Superstars to win the gold Medal.

Then they stood at center ice and cursed the Nazi's.

BTW; the Finnish team this year has been labeled "one of the worst ever" by many in Finland and elsewhere. So some Euro hockey news are calling beating Canada a "huge upset".

IMO they're stretching things quite far to find something to write about, but I thought some here might be interested to know the optics of that result.

If you didn't know, Finland has essentially no NHL players this year. Kaapo Kakko is quite literally the only name most on this board might recognize.

Not much of a stretch imo, don't they have like 18 newcomers?

The Score app is such a useless tool. What does everybody else use?
