Missed the 2nd half of the game.

First period was good, should have been up by at least 9ne or two. Then the usual 2nd period where tge flames just got buried, at least to the point i watched.

Good to see them get a point out. This season has been bad but looks like it's going to be getting a whole lot worse, with this Peter's drama.

I am still thinking this thing is going to crash and burn, and the flames management try to cash in on declining assets in Giordano, Backlund, ryan, Brodie, hamonic, Bennett. I would be willing to part with hanafin, if the right offer came around. He's played a lot of games, and looks like a #4 dman. I don't see him growing into a top pairing guy, or a guy who anchors a 2nd pairing.

I thought the d pairs looked good as well.
Brodie playing well like he did tonight is a key to the Flames success, IMO.

For many shifts I thought Kylington and Stone struggled badly.

Brodie was very good. Off night for Gio.

Game Takes: Penguins 3 Flames 2 (OT)

- Flames drop one in overtime
- Better 60 minute effort for the club
- Dube scores in first period
- Flames take first lead in forever
- Aliu comments shake Flames foundation

You are correct. I should have been clear that I really meant the top two pairs.

No they haven't gone in. At some point his luck will obviously turn. Then you can critique what part of the net he put it in I guess.
This, and the fact that tonight Backlund looked really good and engaged. He looked to be back in the form we expect of him, so hopefully this will continue. This was a strange night to pile on Backlund in my opinion.

That was the best I’ve seen the Flames play all year. Hopefully we see more of that.

I agree. I thought he was a hound all game. Just relentless on the forecheck and won a lot of puck battles. I hope he can work on his lower body strength and be a bit more sturdy on his feet, but overall he’s looking good

Just to echo whats been said already, I thought that was one of the most complete efforts from all involved. Jankowski looked great at times even. Its a cliche, but if you play like that every night you'll win more than you lose. Especially with the upcoming schedule. Good stuff.

One thing I have noticed throughout this Gaudreau slump;

He is by far the Flames MVP.

I’m even happier about how the Flames played in this game. It’s the best they have looked in weeks.

Yes, it was a very good effort and they could easily have won. Much better than the game they actually won.

I really like the Dube goal - skill, speed, no hesitation, hard shot to a good spot.
A scorer's goal. Great chemistry with Rasmus, Lucic doing what he could to help.

The result last night has me wondering openly about how important J Brodie may be to this team. Yes, his re-insertion into the lineup upgraded their defense, but I have to think this also reflects something about his relationships with his teammates, and his position as a leader in the room. I imagine the whole group was extremely relieved to have him back.

Gio had some interesting things to say that made me think about that very thing.

And he himself looked re-energized, flying all over the ice. The potential teammate-relationship you speak of seems to have had mutually positive effects.

Happy for Brodie-been a rough few years for he and his family. Was happy to hear him say he wants to have more fun playing / take it less seriously—you could see the joy back in his stride last night.

I've been saying since the Hartley days; this team goes as Brodie does. More so then any other player (other then the goaltender). A Brodie who is playing well brings such a great dynamic from the backend. He's still the best skater on the team IMO and it's clear his teammates love him. He's sometimes prone to giveaways that end up in the back of the net. But that's the price you pay to have a D who can skate and carry the puck like he can, which aren't a whole lot around the league.

The team is much better with him then without. His comments about learning to enjoy hockey again really leads me to believe that he'll be a better player going forward. I know some are quick to run him out of town. But I think the team would miss him immensely if that happened.

TJ is an important piece to the flames success when he plays like he is able to.

Going to be ####ing fascinating to watch them in the next couple games.
