Just bought a Dyson vacuum. Did I waste my $$ or is it worth it?
My old cheap vacuum bit the dust last weekend. I actually have two vacuums ... one is a Kenmore canister type (this piece of crap barely pics up anything, let alone dog hair which I have a ton of laying around) and I also have a cheapo Dirt Devil Jaguar canister which surprisingly worked 100% better than the Kenmore... or at least it did til the plastic handle on the powerhead broke.
I keep hearing people talking about how great a Dyson is, so the better half and I went out last night to look at them. Ended up buying the new Dyson DC43 Animal
which is there latest ball type upright specifically designed for people who have pets. Cost was $699.99. (sigh... I could have bought a lift kit for my Jeep for that kind of coin!)
I sure hope I didn't waste my money.

I've never talked to a Dyson owner who wasn't incredibly happy with it. I believe they have a strong guarantee, and if you have a pet/carpet combination in the house I probably wouldn't think twice about it. Pets are the reason I've eliminated all carpet from my house.

We've had a pet series Dyson for about 7 years now and it's still awesome.
Just make sure you take it apart every 6 months or so to clean things out.

My parents have one and they love it. That ball thingy actually does make quite a bit of difference in terms of mobility. So I would say if you have pets, it's definitely worth it to get a better vacuum.
Speaking of which, has anyone ever actually bought one of those Dyson circular fans? I mean, they really are cool and all, but there is no way I'd pay even close to that much for a fan.

My Cat (pure white), loves to lie around on my rugs and shed relentlessly. Normally it could take up to 30 strokes with the old Vacuum to get the pet hair out.
Maybe 4-5 are needed with the Dyson.
Just awesome.

Worth it times ten.
Our dog (his fur) broke our old vacuum, the Dyson is amazing for pets.

I've had mine for about 3 years, love it. Normally I can get a full chamber of dog hair on each floor of the house and that's vacuuming once a week.
It's a beast on dog hair, but remember to clean it every 3 months and it will work like new. Cleaning it is extremely easy as well.

ALL ABOARD!

I love ours. We have the other model without the ball and it works great. My wife hates it for doing stairs as the vacuum is pretty heavy.

we also just bought one, I think from Costco though, and my wife used our regular vacuum first, and then used the Dyson right afterwards and it was gross how much more stuff the Dyson picked up.
The dogs don't attack it with the same vigour they did the old vacuum though. Disappointing because that was always highly entertaining.

I have the Dyson ball upright and the handheld animal version. Both are really highly recommended. To be fair, we got it through the wedding registry so I didn't pay for them, but I am very happy with the results.
It's pretty gross to consider the amount of dust/dirt the upright picks up compared to what my old vaccum use to.
It's pricey up front, but with the warranty and it's effectiveness, it's worth it in the long run

I hope that when you tell people you bought the dc43 the animal that you change the inflection/tone in your voice to something different ( to sound a little bit like the guy who does the voiceovers for monster truck racing ads) maybe include some reverb with that.....

Hm interesting, might have to look into one. Already have a central vac though, and not a whole lot of carpet.
For those that do it for pets, you should get one of these:

I have a question about the Dyson! I have heard that it does not work well if you have shag carpet of any kind. Is this true?

We just replaced our area rug with a really long shag rug and it is problematic with our dyson.

I have the same thing. Just don't stay in one spot too long, do quicker passes and it will work.
You don't have to go too quick, just don't keep it in one spot too long. Also, my rug is on hard wood, so sometimes I start up the brush on hard wood floor and move it to the rug using quick passes.
