The Avs and Blue Jackets decided to shake up their goaltending last night.
To Colorado:
Thatcher Demko
2022 4th
To Columbus:
Jordan Binnington
19th overall
Mathias Janmark
Demko’s contract was a big factor here. Both Binnington and Demko have similar numbers. I get the younger guy. I also donated Janmark to Columbus in exchange for 3 eye exams.

Trading services for players. Might put Calgarypuck in an odd situation if this continues.

I needed a strong defensive player to pair with Miro Heiskanen, who is middling in that territory. Last year it was Carlo with that duty, but I think Cernak takes a big stride this year and can take that role on the team. With Carlo expendable, it allows me to reset the defensive positions a little and have a younger Hague/Fabbro tandem in the 5/6 spots. Last year I went old with Boro/Cole in the third pairing, and this will be a systemic shakeup.
The Pashin for Saville is due to the Kings not drafting a goalie for several seasons.
Thanks for the talks Cam, Carlo is a rock.

pretty big deal between the Flames and Wild tonight, as Calgary finally lands Makar, who they've been after a while. The sad thing is Ravi forgot to include Makar in the deal. Too bad - no take backsies!
Team: Calgary Flames
- Hart, Carter (G) NHL
- Raymond, Lucas (LW) ECHL
- 2021 1st Round Draft Choice - 6th overall
- 2022 1st Round Draft Choice (buf)
Team: Minnesota Wild
- 2021 2nd Round Draft Choice (min)
- 2021 3rd Round Draft Choice (tor)
Terms: Pick 6 to Min. Pick 37 and 67 to Calgary

Flames have been very busy over the weekend and finally towards the end were able to finalize a few deals. I had several talks with GMs involving a very comparable package but was unable to finalize a deal. Fortunately with Grant, we were able to complete this trade. The acquisition cost was high but I also think I added the best D in the entire NHL at the age of 21 while still on his ELC contract for this upcoming season.
To the Wild:
6th overall pick (lotto pending)
Buff 1 2022
Lucas Raymond
Carter Hart
To Calgary:
Cale Makar
2nd rd pick 2021
3rd rd pick 2021
This was a massive price but finally we have the 2 cornerstone players to build around in Makar and Mackinnon.
After moving Hart we wanted to shore up the goaltending position as last season the team had several mediocre to low end goalies and they were all terrible.
To Columbus:
Jake McCabe
Pavel Dorofeyev
Top 20 1st rd pick in 2022
To Calgary:
Jordan Binnington
Pick 53
The team still has a boat load of cap space, will look to parlay some of these later picks into some depth roster players in the coming weeks.

Nice deals!
The Habs were in on Makar, I just not get my roster composition headed in a direction that would allow me to pull the trigger, with Burns, Chabot and Klingberg all in the mix, we decided that we were already good on the puck mover. Although it is tough to let the best D in the league move.

We have acquired defenseman Gustav Forsling from Florida in exchange for a second-round pick (56C) in the 2021 draft.

Makar is a stud, wished we had enough chips to land him but we didn't and a couple players we are just not willing to trade yet.
I think it's a good return for both teams.

On the Makar deal, I consider him to be an elite asset and a bit of a unicorn in terms of what he can do from the blueline. I have no idea what his upside is. But I have found the peak of a players value is when they have at least one year remaining on their entry deal.
In terms of the assets I got back
- Lucas Raymond is the key piece. I think he has superstar potential
- Though I'm not a fan of this upcoming draft, I should be able to get a good player at 6 (or wherever the pick ends up)
- The Buffalo pick is another bullet in the chamber for a chance at the elite talent at the high end of the draft next year
- And then this is a buy low move on Hart, who I drafted and still believe in. Otherwise he's a cheap backup
To the Wild:
6th overall pick (lotto pending)
Buff 1 2022
Lucas Raymond
Carter Hart
