And off-topic, but can we please get over this "honoured numbers" BS? We're literally the only team in the NHL to do it and it's nonsense. And if you're not gonna give out numbers like 2 and 14, do the right thing and take them out of circulation instead of going all loosey-goosey with it. It's lame and dumb and insulting.

I kind’ve like the “honoured numbers” thing because it guarantees that a “retired” number has to occur for a really damned good reason.

Iginla, as an example, is just such a reason, and will rightly have his number retired. But some players (like Nieuwendyk, for example) while having had great success in Calgary, arguably made their greatest marks elsewhere. The “honour” concept helps us celebrate our history without watering-down the notion of “number retirement”.

(Full disclosure: I’m one of those old-Burke-like-cranky-guys who appreciates seeing players wear hockey numbers, instead of football numbers because all the lower ones are unavailable. Probably only acceptable in Montreal, given their history, but even then all the “40s” and “60s” have taken some adjustment...)

No, we're not

Arizona and St. Louis have honored numbers

If Fluery was the same size as Iginla he would chewed up and spit out anybody that got in his way. Tough as nails! Helped win the cup! Where was Invisiginla in game seven against Tampa because he was not as dominant as earlier in the series? Was he injured?

You are clearly just trolling now with comments about Iginla being invisible in the cup final.

Also who cares how good Fleury would be if he was the same size as Iginla? He wasn't.

Finally to compare playoff performances in their cup finals seasons:

Fleury: In on 14% of all Flames playoff goals

Iginla: In on 39% of all Flames playoff goals

if the Flames think a 45 year old Jagr can bolster the roster, they have to think a 41 year old Iginla can do the same. If the guy still wants to play in the NHL, the Flames had better at very very least have a PTO offer on the table for him to consider (whether he would take the offer - who knows). I'm guessing they do.

Nah. Jagr was better at 44 than Iginla was at 37. Not a chance.

Well, we'll see, Corral. I'm all for nostalgia -- I'd love to see guys like Phaneuf or Cammalleri back if there was a spot for them -- but I just can't envision it happening

Number 9 young ones.
Lanny remains the greatest Flames of all time.

For a little clarity, Fleury was a 20 year old rookie bottom six forward on a stacked SC winning team and Iginla was a 26 year old 8 year veteran, who was a star player.

Playoff points per game over both of their careers , Fleury comes out ahead.

He's already committed to Kladno.

Oh, Cammalleri would do great in the KHL. If Nigel Dawes is any indication...
