A laughingstock with Gaudreau, Monahan, Backlund, Hartley, Byron, Brodie, Giordano, Ferland, Kulak, Jankowski, pending cap space out the wazoo. Basically a team kicking off a rebuild with a plan.

Burke came in and the first thig Feaster does is acquire Smid and Colborne - two big, disappointing players with ties to Burke. Burke's first trade deadline we hang on to Mike Cammalleri out of obstinence even though the return for him could have panned out for us long term. Burke's first draft we bring in Hunter Smith and Brandon Bollig. Then we proceed to not qualify RFA Paul Byron who had a very strong rookie season. A year later we waive Paul Byron who had a strong, if snakebit and injury riddled sophomore season. Last year Treliving publically pointed to "his boss" as the reason for the Luke Gazdic/Tanner Glass deal.

Sorry but Burke' size/truculence fetish was a laughingstock in and of itself.

They should turn "Coach's Corner" into "Coach and GM's Corner" and have Cherry and Burke go at it. That would be entertaining.

I wonder if Burke has his eye on the Seattle GM job.

I missed this... When and what was said? That's interesting.

Part of me does worry, if Burke had anything to do with the big trades. He was always savy and got what he wanted. Curious how much involvement he had in the Hamilton and Hamonic deals, if he helped bring the price down or if there was any effect from his experience.

The Seattle thing is quite interesting. Its possible that the potential Seattle ownership is already planning out their hockey ops and Burke might be interested in getting a gig there.

I prefer celebrating Burke leaving and keeping on the topic of hockey. No interest in worrying about other posters or their personalities and opinions (outside of hockey talk)

I hate this news. I saw Burke's presence as net positive. Relationship with Bettman and no way Ken King meddles in hockey stuff with Burke there. Now?

I'm pretty okay with this. I just hope KK stays far away from hockey operations.

Maybe he thought it was time to move on after the city announced it was making attempts to re-ignite arena talks and the backhanded response from CSEC aka Ken King. Probably didn't wanna be involved with this mess.

This may sound trivial, but I thought Burke made a laughingstock of the Flames everytime he represented them with his ridiculous hair and untied tie.

Somehow, he seems to think he needs to pave a new fashion road for executives?

The whole thing spoke of his ego and I am sure came out in other ways that we did not see. I am glad he is gone. The team has hardly had a record of success under his watch as well.

I can't see Burke wanting to be an on-air personality. Seems like he was withdrawing into the background for more operations and management role.

If I were Seattle, I'd hire Dean Lombardi. He's a similar kind of guy to McPhee. Great at building a team from scratch.

See, I'm the opposite. I dont care how someone is dressed, I care about what they're saying.

The fact is that Burke's patented 'untied tie' is a disarming technique. It makes you focus on that and potentially take him less seriously giving him the upper hand.

So ignore it.

Can you imagine him in coaches corner with Don Cherry?
it would just be a non-stop verbal diarrhea between those 2, with Ron MacLean in the middle half mouth open with index finger pointing up for 10 minute trying to say a word.

Given how things were worded this morning we can assume that the POHO role will blend into that of the GM with Maloney serving as Treliving's right hand man?

I assumed Flames GM now reports to Maloney who reports to Ken King?

Anyway, the Sun-Herald (two papers with a single newsroom, now there's a brilliant idea) isn't hiring. Their next publisher will be the janitor, who will have the job of turning all the lights out.
That might just be the right fit for KK after all these years.
