Maybe king is still employed because he wanted to get the arena going earlier and the owners thought waiting was the best course of action?

He couldnt have possibly timed this worse.

Yeah but where you are wrong is that heads haven't rolled. I never said he shouldn't be fired only that the fact he's not fired means ownership realizes he's not directly responsible and is obviously not dissatisfied with the job he's doing. Everyone keeps talking "He" this and "He" that. King after all is simply a mouthpiece and it's the owners that are making the decisions. "He" is just doing what his bosses tell him to do which is why he's still employed today. I'm not a big fan of Ken King but I find it laughable how fans keep pointing the finger at him like he's the mastermind behind this.

King has to be directly responsible for the extremely poor presentation and communication of his plan in the summer of 2015.
There was nothing that could have made the fans excited. Cheap renderings, no actual plan.
All that in 10 years?

I understand he played a part in revitalizing The Flames in 2004. But that was all Darryl Sutter. How does King still have a job? and why are there still flags on the jerseys??

By all accounts CSEG is a profitable enterprise. The arena issue is a single part of a large business. In business, you don't fire a president because one aspect (which he was probably told to push) didn't work.
If the Flames, Stamps, Hitmen, etc, start losing money on a consistent basis, King will be gone. Otherwise, nope.

It's too bad. Had they presented a reasonable plan, with all their ducks in a row, they could have endeared themselves in the hearts of every Calgarian, at a time when this city needed it, right at the downturn. Instead, Edwards skips town, they present a half-baked plan, on a site they were told years ago was a non-starter, and for a project that would cost the taxpayers a billion dollars. That is not good leadership, that is not a good corporate citizen, and that is not how you build a good relationship with the city, the province and the people you are asking to support your business.

Isn’t there another thread dealing with the arena issue(s)? I thought this one was about Burke.

The reported value of the business, the fact they've not been a recipient of NHL equalization payments, the fact that guys like Edwards don't invest in losing no businesses for long.
The point is that, while the arena issue is in the minds of a lot of posters, it's not even something that hits the books right now, and it's certainly only one aspect of a pretty big portfolio of business. Running a smooth day to day operation is the main job of a president. King seem s to do that fairly well. No strikes, no contractual blunders, etc.

Turfed for running profitable enterprises while following ownership mandates/directives?
Yes, I suppose. Not often though.
King is not doing this stuff on his own.
We keep shooting the messenger.

To be fair to KK, while it isn’t a slam dunk, it is fairly likely we’ll get a new arena before Edmonton.

Actually, the Flames have become recipients of NHL equalization payments, as reported in September https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/13...ds-this-season.
I believe that on the books, the Flames are currently reporting a loss based on operating costs and general revenue. However, this doesn't mean that Edwards will be rushing to sell the team, as the value of holding any NHL team is increasing, and so even if Edwards has to pump a few million into the team each year, the increase in the value of the asset is offsetting those losses.
Of course, $20 million or so for the next expansion would also help to cushion the blow...

I was aware they very recently got equalization. I meant over the term of his tenure. That doesn't mean they are reporting a loss, however.

I don't think there's any merit to that.
