Former cop. 72 years old. Killed 12, raped 45.

Unreal.

Incredible. Patton Oswalt must be so proud of what Michelle McNamara's book helped accomplish.

I'm not one to argue, but I've read a lot of books on serial killers, and its a compulsion and a need to do it.

for some of them its the thrill of not being caught.

For him to just stop has to go deeper then a fear of DNA evidence.

But......Paramount (aka Spike TV) told me that every unsolved high profile murder case/serial killer was Ed Edwards.

I imagine he is. He was on the My Favourite Murder podcast recently talking about the case. They had other people familar with GSK who described his crimes and he sounds like a complete psycho. Hopefully they've got the right guy.

He was so proud of her, and so utterly devastated with her death.

I've been binging that and Last Podcast on the Left recently. So many episodes to catch up on still.

Don't most of them stop when they get older? This guy's whole MO was based around being athletic, climbing and breaking into places, overpowering adults. He would have been in his early 40s in 1988.

I'm watching the CNN series on him called Unmasking A Killer, which just aired in the past couple of months.

His MO focused on complete control of the crime scene, as he escalated from raping women at home alone (or with their kids), to raping women while their spouse was home, to murdering couples. At the very end of his spree, the male got loose of his bindings and it ended up with a serious struggle between GSK and the male victim. After that he's credited with one attack on a single woman, then nothing.

Gives credibility to the theory that he felt like he was losing his ability to control, so somehow was able to shut it down.

Was there something in McNamara’s book that pointed to this guy?

I don’t recall him being mentioned, but her work was exhaustive, detailed, organized, and the book brought further attention to the case.
