The Oilers didn’t qualify for the POs last year
The Flames won a series after the regular season last year.

Man, Pens fans are beyond spoiled. Must be fun to cheer for a team that makes the playoffs every single year. Lucky bastards.

Pens have also been bankrupt twice. They were also almost 25 years in the wilderness before Mario, Jagr, Coffey, Recchi, Mullen and of course Hrdina and Badger got them a cup.

Then they "won" the lottery draft coming out of bankruptcy and announcing a new arena with Lemieux a new owner. Wow talk about star alignment seems too lucky to be true.

Edmonton knows a thing or two about lotteries if there was ever a concern.

When you look at the fact that McDavid and Draisaitl represent 73% of that teams offense it shows how hilariously bad that Oilers team is, and playing a 7 game playoff series against the Jets is going to be a far different scenario then soft regular season games split over a long period of time.
If I was Maurice, I go in figuring two things.
1) Reffing is loser in the playoffs, the physical game goes up.
2) If Tippett tries to run McDaivid and Draisaitl for huge ice time in a physical playoff series they will wear down quickly.
Therefore my playoff strategy is this.
1) Be extremely physical with McDaivid and Draisaitl. I'm not saying cheapshots or dirty hits, however honestly I tell my players if they get that opportunity to up the physical game or take a liberty, do it, play this like its going to be a long series, take the gas out of 73% of the Oilers line up
2) Get the puck deep, force the forecheck on the Oilers blueline, Russell is banged up. You can pressure Nurse into doing stupid things, but try to play 3/4 of the game in the Oilers zone, which shouldn't be that tough with the Oilers bottom 9 forward group.
3) Aggravate Smith, push the envelop with him, give him snow showers score goals then tell him which Oiler made the mistake that lead to the goal. Stand in front of him and give him no room to work. Also don't ring the puck on shootups, do cross to corner dumps so he can't bring the puck up.
4) Stand up in the neutral zone, don't allow McDavid to gain speed on the blueline and don't give up the middle of the ice to him.
Of all the series this one screams upset, if the Oilers get good CH they win. Frankly even with a off season, the Jets should win the battles of line 2 through to 4, The Oilers just don't have much there. Be physical, without Kassian the Oilers just don't look all that physically intimidating.
Jets in 6, with game 6 being a shellacking as Connor gives up and goes to pouty mode, and Draisaitl losses his interest.

Even if it did count as playoffs, its kinda funny that they lost to like the 35th seed or whatever they were. The important thing is they look stupid no matter what.

If the Jets take stupid penalties like usual it will be Oilers in 5. Flames could easily beat the Oilers. The Jets on the other hand are pretty poor in the discipline department.

If the refs put their whistles away, the Jets have a good shot at winning.

Agreed, but if the Jets can play physically and keep it to 5v5 the Jets win in 5 or 6. The oilers don't have depth, don't play super well five versus five.
If the Oilers are thinking their powerplay is going to carry them . . . well look what happened last year in the playoffs when the Hawks ran them through the boards, and eliminated them. Trust me, this years Oilers team isn't that much different from last years, except they played in a weak division that made them look better then they are.
They're at best a middle of the road team, and next year when alignment goes back to normal a non playoff team.

Leafs lose to Habs.
Stink beat Jets.
Price goes God mode and Habs flush Stink.

Somehow don't think the Jets will simply roll over.
They will have had a few weeks of this matchup being set to formulate a gameplan to get the most out of their rather large depth edge. However wouldn't put it past them to not make a significant adjustment of any kind because Winnipeg.
No matter what Hellebuyck needs to come in refreshed and ready. Will he? I have no clue. Could see it go either way.
I just want to see Toronto steamroll the Habs so that they're extra confident coming off a first round victory and ready to pummel these losers in case.

Winnipeg has a decent power play, and when it's clicking, I think it's a better system than Edmonton's.
Edmonton got on a roll at the end of the season, and the Jets slumped, but things can change. In March the Jets were up at 30% and the Oilers at 22%.
It's going to come down to Hellebyck v. Smith when it comes to special teams.

Unfortunately I don’t think Hellebyuck will be good enough to compensate for how banged up the Jets are, but E=NG.

I wouldn’t mind seeing scheifle or Lowry hitting the minus twins on the opening shift. I think that the jets have to be physically engaged and disobey the right of way rule. They have to rough the minus twins up. Let’s see what 30 minutes per night looks like then!

I have to say the playoff games so far are outstanding. I am not sure the Canadian teams will have much of a chance unless the American teams kill each other. Just great hockey.

Edmonton is usually near the bottom of the page, but E=NG can not be forgotten.
