Hard to say, likely a playoff team. Talbot's save percentage was .013 higher than his backup, so he individually was a lot better. The Wild play a looser game than Sutter as well, so presumably he would have been better than .915 with the Flames.

Talbot was solid down the stretch last year, and very good if not great in the bubble. Happy to get Markstrom but also happy to see Talbot do well.

Oh, and seeing Vegas continue to shoot blanks in the playoffs makes me happy.

I’m pulling for the Wild to come out of that division. Always liked the city, and would be nice for that franchise to win a Cup.

You’d need to find 4 games or so that Markstrom cost the team (and Talbot would have won).

Wow minny successfully dragged Vegas into the muck with them.

Also why is every former player ####ing burning us so badly?

Isn't there enough salt in the wound already? This year is beyond ridiculous. Need the Oilers to get their ass beat to restore some order to this gongshow.

You think the Flames will lose out? That would be good for draft positioning. It would ensure that the Canucks would pass us and we would not pass the Hawks and Coyotes.

I think that, currently, they are 8 points back. I also think that you are avoiding the exercise of identifying losses that are on Markstrom.

Yotes don't have a first rounder

As much as I want to rag on the Flames, goaltending was not the issue this year. Goal scoring and being a bunch of pussies were much bigger issues.

Haha ^ that made me laugh.

A rather pointed assessment of the team.

I suspect Talbot makes a stop on April 19th to get the Flames at least point

I suspect Talbot is not flopping around on the second goal on April 26th and the Flames get at least a point

I am guessing the McDavid “rocket” on April 2nd does not go in and the Flames get at least one point.

I imagine Browns 45 foot wrister does not fool Talbot on March 7th and the Flames grab two points.

That would be somewhere between 4-7 points. But it is possible that the Flames still don’t make the playoffs, because even if Talbot still had a .915 it would be a ten goal difference and those 10 additional saves may have came in games where it would not have made a difference.

I can point to a bunch of games he won by himself, especially early on. And I suspect Talbot has had a few bad goals this year himself. Talbot was 12-10-1 with the Flames. I suspect Markstrom’s record will be similar, and he was hurt for several. Goaltending made no difference to the Flames’ results this year.

ETA: In only one of those games did the Flames score more than 2 goals.

If we would have made the playoffs Markstrom would have had the worst save percentage of any goalie who played the majority of his teams games (if he has a hot final 3 games he may pass Bob in Florida). What can definitely be said is that Markstrom was one of the poorer starting goalies in the NHL this year and did nothing to help the team make the playoffs.

Or Talbot could have gone .733 like he did in the Flames final elimination game...save percentage seems to be a team stat.

Markstom is in the .920s since the Flames started playing decent defensively

We will never know how the Flames would have done with Talbot but it seems likely they would be about the same.

Talbot should thank the Flames for saving his career after he sucked balls in Edmonton and Philly

It feels like one is going to need a perfect shot or a lucky bounce to beat either Fleury or Talbot. Two great goalies locked in another fantastic duel.

If the Wild can pull a W here I think they have a shot at taking the series.

Well I guess one screen shot in the quasi lucky bounce category and one perfect shot and it is 1-1
