Default Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2020 - Round 4 Run Off

Connor Mackey vs Dustin Wolf

Finished within 5 votes of each other. Winner gets 4th spot, loser 5th ... Phillips and Pettersen camps will make the call.

The guy who has top-four potential as soon as this season.

Wolf.

Mackey is a nice prospect and all, but I am hoping 4/5 years from now Wolf, who has been nothing but fantastic in the WHL, continues to progress and is fighting Markstrom for his #1 spot.

Mackey has the safer floor but Wolf has the better potential and game changing ability.

Am I missing something? Is Mackey the Giordano or Hanifin replacement? And when did he push our #1 ranked LD in this poll even further down the depth chart?

Went with Wolf.

Makey is a 23 year old undrafted player and while it would be nice for lightning to strike twice and him becoming the next Giordano I'm skeptical he's going to be a foundational player and as others have said I wouldn't even have him in the top 5 prospects but hopefully I am wrong as that would be a bonus if a longshot undrafted free agent works out.

Color me skeptical about these College signings. Would love to be pleasantly surprised but I'm throwing in on the super young goalie winning every award under the sun.

I am really high on Wolf. Potential franchise saver in four years.

I'm done picking goalie in the top five for ranking prospects.

Wolf sounds too much like all those other blue chip goaltending prospects we've had that never amounted to nothing.
I am not sure he'd be in my top 10.

MacKey is likely playing for the Flames this season.

Easy choice.

Wait, are we supposed to rank by who is better this moment in time or who we think will be the better player long term?

Once again vote how you want. There are those that vote 100% on potential, some that vote 100% on the likelihood to see an NHL rink, others that apply a mix, some using the value in a trade. Completely up to you.

Did Mackey cause it sounds like he's got top 4 potential and is pushing for an NHL spot now.

I really like Wolf as a prospect but goalies are voodoo. Parson's and Gillies were also somewhat highly touted at one time. I dont know if I can get super excited about a goalie prospect until I see one start dominating the AHL level.

Therein lies the problem. I personally put more weight with the better player long term, otherwise Gawdin would be top 5, he will most likely get some games next season.
