The sad thing is we need immigration to keep our population and workforce from shrinking, to support the tax base. But if the job market is shrinking we’re hooped regardless

Fundamentally I agree with you.
But we need jobs and housing, a medical system that can handle influx, school systems that handle foreign children, etc...generally we need infrastructure.
I equate immigration similarly to Economics. You cant just change 1 variable and expect all the rest of them to stay the same.
Thats not how it works.

Or maybe that's being overly optimistic?

Doesn't that potentially also reduce headcount and take away food paying jobs? Less complexity and programs leads to fewer agents, administrators and associated people.

I dunno, it seems the sacrifices of all those who died didn't really benefit anyone at all. It's far more likely to be a drop in the bucket than a point of change, even though I am pretty awesome.

If you don't know where you're going it doesnt matter which path you take...
So I'll leave this up to 'User's Discretion.'
I've been hit by a shoe before. Its no picnic.

How can there have been no expression of interest by distributors, as the CBC reported Alberta Health claimed in the memo? For that matter, why does the health department’s attitude to this development appear to be so ho hum? And why, for heaven’s sake, was the contract with the previous distributor allowed to expire?
This explanation – such as it is – doesn’t pass the sniff test.
A health department spokesperson told the CBC, “We are actively exploring options to distribute vaccines from our provincial depot to community medical clinics.”
But when reporter Jennifer Lee asked the former distribution company about what was going on, the president of the health care logistics corporation told a different story. “Our contract was not renewed,” said Dean Berg of Accuristix. “But we’d be pleased to help AHS with the physician distribution and hope to hear from them.”

This is borderline criminal. Certainly ####ing evil. I hope they all get vaccine preventable illness and die in pain and suffering. ####ing #######s. Three more years...unreal.

Just hearing that the 'new structure' for victim services just took effect. Full separation from the RCMP in rural communities. Creation of much more bureaucracy, but feet on the ground are going from full time to part time (so that it can look like employment numbers didn't drop). This effectively creates a barrier between RCMP and victim services, and sets the stage for the UCP Police Force.
The overwhelming number of people using this service are women, so I guess the new plan is for them to pray the abuse away.

Can something be done to get this nut job out of office?
How do you not order vaccines.
How do we have so many dumbass people in this province to vote for this garbage. Making Jason Kenney look like a saint is something.

I dodn't know if the vaccine distribution issue is incompetence or sabotage, but it's worth pointing out that a) physician office administration is a very small percentage of total administration and it's shrinking, and b) at least here in BC distribution to GP offices is quite challenging.
The reason for a) is that family physicians are already busy and adding 1.2 million appointments to their caseload in a 4 week span is not possible and financially they're very expensive. It doesn't really make sense to use GP offices for vaccine administration. Remember that the vaccine costs about $110-140 a dose and come in 5/6 dose vials. The moderna is stable once thawed for only 30 days and the vial needs to be thrown out 24 hours after the first dose is drawn. Pfizer is even worse at 12 hours. Because of these factors, you need to do high volume to justify the thawing and opening of the vials.
The reason for b) is that pharmacy and mass clinics have established cold chains that run year round. For physician offices, these cold chains need to be re-set up every year and that's not easy or cheap. Then, distribution is not just delivering vaccine from a depot to an administrator, it's understanding at which points thawing will occur and once thawed there's limited time to use it up so allocations need to be very accurate to avoid wasting. I've been somewhat involved with the distribution here and it's extremely complex and small end users take up significant planning resources.
tl/dr not a big deal in the overall delivery of the vaccine and more complex than is being made out. Having said that, it's a solvable problem and should've been solved

Those are reasonable points and discussions to have. Letting a contract expire in April and not having those discussions with stakeholders, and just lying to the public about what is going on is evidence of incompetence or deliberate maleficence.

I’d rather have people go to pharmacies for standard vaccines instead of taking up a clinic doctor’s time, but they should be available for people who are already seeing their doctor, especially for pregnant women or the immunocompromised. Smith sucks.
