Alberta premier calls on 'progressive' politicians to 'dial down' rhetoric after attack on Trump

LO ####IN' L. Not everyone, just progressives. Not her followers camped on the side of the highways with #### Trudeau flags, and effigies of Trudeau in a turban and black face, nope. It's the left that needs to tone things down. How many convoys and border blockades have the far left perpetrated? Court cases about blockaders wanting to kill politicians and police? Politicians circumventing the courts to get charges dismissed? Oh, wait, that was her!

Sorry Danielle, if you want to pretend to take the high ground, at least do it from the plane of reality. But of course she's had no part in this. Nope. Not her time on the radio fomenting anger and rage, not her aggressive posturing and legislation, nope, none of it. What a ####ing angel. Unreal.

Smith's entire career is basically a DEI hire anyway, she's got no qualifications whatsoever.

The bubble that that arrogant, hypocritical windbag lives in is nuts. And those comments will further rile up her supporters, too. Smith and UCP are the absolute worst.

Classic case of Smith projecting blaming the other side. Totally ignores that would be assassin was a 2nd Amendment gun nut and registered Republican.

But this is consistent with her usual antics.

She just wants to try and stop Nenshi from making truthful statements about her. She needs a safe space from reality.

Parker of course, is projecting. Many unanswered questions regarding his own group's funding sources.

Also: Turkish Tylenol was NG.

Parker, Smith, and the Oilers+Katz could all come out of this quite poorly!

Excellent.

While I didn’t vote for Smith, I have to point out Albertans hired her by majority.

It’s actually the opposite of what you are saying.

Sorry to Debbie Downer your joke.

Well, she got 13k votes in Medicine Hat.

But sure, that’s the majority of Albertans. Smart stuff.

This, along with “well the turnout was only 60%, so really the majority of people didn’t vote for them” is the lamest argument. I loathe Smith and her politics, but she won the majority of seats in the election.

Get over it. Those are two entirely separate arguments. The UCP won the majority of seats in the election, but Smith was “hired” without the majority of Alberta having any say at all (as it was outside of an election), and she can just as easily be replaced without us having any say at all as well.

In the current party centric version of our FTFP system a vote for an MLA is a vote for the leader of that party to become premier. The UCP party won 53% of the popular vote.

So it’s is accuracte to say a majority of Albertans voted for the UCP party, led by Danial Smith, in the 2023 election. Therefore I think it is false to say smith was hired without the majority having any say.

I would agree prior to the 2023 general election your statement was correct but once the UCP party was re-elected that argument no longer holds water and Albertans “re-hired” Smith.

What we can say, though, is that the majority are unable or unwilling to evaluate politicians rationally and vote in their own best interests. Unless having lying incompetent unqualified vindictive evil people in power is done on purpose with wide open eyes.

The same is true of Nenshi. That’s the way party-based parliamentary democracies work. What are you suggesting as an alternative?
