More than 36,000 people voted and the Black-capped Chickadee has won the honour of being named Calgary’s official bird.

Nothing more Calgary than a chickadee…
Quote:
The black-capped chickadee is the state bird of Maine and Massachusetts and the provincial bird of New Brunswick. In 2014, the black-capped chickadee was named the official bird of Vancouver for 2015. The bird is prominently featured on the standard Maine license plate, as well as welcome signs on major roadways in Massachusetts.

"Calgary - A Great Place for Birds"
It's a weird slogan, it should have said "Calgary - We've got Great Tits".

Random bird talk: Saw a Cooper's Hawk in Sunnyside today hunting sparrows; it let me get quite close up, like 15 feet or so. It had found a bush full of sparrows it had cornered and would spend a couple minutes watching the bush, then dive in to try and make a kill, then hop back out again. Pretty cool to see it up close, and I've got no problem with its efforts to thin out the european sparrow population.

Of course you do. Everybody does. They’re adorable, have a great call, and a great name.
To tolerate magpies takes a tough people.

The most boring choice won. Typical Calgary. Enjoy your cute, dumb little bird.

Whatever the results of the poll we all know the bird Calgarians deserve. Deny it all you want, but if you look deep into your heart you know it to be true!

No capitals, just "great tits". E.g. we don't write Black Bears, but rather black bears.
