I usually fly through Seattle, both there and back.

You clear US customs at Calgary going down so the flight from Seattle to Hawaii is domestic...no clearing at that end.

Same going home. Hawaii to Seattle is domestic. You then just clear Canadian customs in calgary.

Calgary to Amsterdam on WestJet starting in August. That is pretty cool.

Looks like Gatwick and Paris returning this summer too albeit it on a scaled back frequency. Rome and Dublin don't look like they will return until next year. Also nice to see a big bump in transborder flights beginning in July. I suppose it can all change in a heartbeat but still positive to see something on a schedule.

Interesting that Ed Sims is retiring as CEO of WestJet.

I've met him a couple times - very bright and engaging.

The timing is strange with things ramping back up.

Oops just saw this.

I wouldn't think its uncommon for the leader of an organization to depart after overcoming a massive challenge.

It's a huge shock to the system going from running at 150% with everything on fire around you, to trucking along at 75% with things running smoothly.

Right now I think WestJet would be thrilled if things were at 75%!

This could easily go under the Covid Travel thread or the What Makes me Happy thread too. Air Canada planning to resume YYC-FRA August 1 albeit 4x weekly. But we are seeing a slow resumption of routes that had been suspended during the pandemic and that is fantastic news.

Interesting. I'm planning on going to LA at the end of October. I hope they have some good prices for the launch ... and the other guys match them.

Anyone flown Flair? How are they?

We need SNA/Orange County. Burbank is on the wrong side of the LA area for Disneyland access.

A few years back WestJet had this route from YYC, perhaps those in the know can say why it got dropped? My guess would be loads weren't good enough, so they stuck with LAX.

They did SNA up until the pandemic started from what I remember. We were down there in August 2019 and were going to fly home out of SNA but switched to SAN last minute.

A direct SNA would be so awesome, I fly there several times a year and it would sure make things easier.

Porter airlines has announced an agreement with Embraer to purchase up to 80 of their new 195-E2's, and has listed Calgary as a future destination.

The biggest surprise to me on this is that it's the E2s and not A220s. If I recall correctly they were going to be a launch customer of the A220 (then C-Series) if they could get approval for jets at YTZ.

All that said, very cool, and a boost to the aviation industry in Canada. Did you happen to see if they'll be at T1 or T3 of YYZ? I didn't think there'd really be any capacity at either but I guess post-pandemic things have opened up a bit.

Flying into Billy Bishop would be amazing. Not sure if a Calgary flight would do that, but it would save so much time for business trips.
