Just get him in free agency if they really want him. Canes will want a limb for the lopsided trade.

He’ll be too much in free agency. The Flames could use him for a playoff run and that’s it.

How would the price for Micheal Ferland compare to the Jeff Skinner deal...
2019 2nd round pick (BUF)
2020 3rd round pick (BUF)
2020 6th round pick (BUF)

I'd do a 1st for Ferland considering it would probably be the 31st pick overall.
He would still walk in FA, if the canes aren't willing to pay him, no way tree would.

Love Ferly but I wouldn’t want to pay what he would likely cost to acquire, given he’s a UFA at the end of the season. Trading picks is a bad idea IMO. I’m actually not sure the Flames need to add anything at all. They look pretty damn good.

Not saying they won’t go after him, just saying if you think it’s a 1st or bust, the Canucks are likely out.

No, big NO from me on this. I think people are getting caught up in the nostalgia of Ferly. They should be targeting guys like schenn or stone or Hayes or kapanen but not ferly and not for the reported asking price

I'm hoping there's a Ferly chant at some point tonight.
I mean, I hope Carolina gets blown out of the water... like so bad the team has to relocate to Mars to escape the embarrassment of it all... but I'd still like Ferland to get himself some fanfare tonight.

I hope Ferland feels nostalgic tonight and doesn't level any of our stars.

I agree with Conroy though, if we're making a deal at the deadline it either has to be just for depth or someone that isn't going to mess with the teams chemistry. Ferland wouldn't really mess with chemistry, he already knows most of the team.
The price though, yeesh no thanks. I'd rather keep the 1st and 2nd and add depth, the top 6 clearly isn't having trouble

Canes would probably want a king's ransom from the Flames to hurt the sting for losing so terribly in that trade.

I'm really surprised how high everyone is valuing Ferland. Chia must be rubbing off on everyone.

I was a fan of Ferland here but in truth I haven't followed him much since he left. Hasn't he had a fair bit of injury trouble since going to Carolina? Concussion problems?

His health history? Also he hasn’t been a wrecking ball in years. Solid physical player sure, but no longer a wrecking ball.

The Flames’ window is open *now*.
This is not a drill. The stars are aligning, and the Flames will likely hit the post-season as top seed in the division, possibly the entire conference.
Gio is playing on borrowed time. The chances of him ever being this good again are extremely small. Tkachuk is on his ELC, and he’s going to do an extra $6-7m worth of damage to the roster next year.
The coach and the team are clicking. The roster is healthy. The starting goalie is in the groove.
It’s entirely realistic that RIGHT NOW is the best chance this core will ever have to win the cup.
I would absolutely pay a 1st and a prospect for a top-tier rental right now. The Flames need size, physicality, and secondary scoring (particularly for the 2PP unit). Ferland might be the best player on the market to fill those needs.
I think it’s time to go all-in.

It isn’t just nostalgia. I’ve watched a few Carolina games this season, he’s a really good player. Still hits heavy, still has a great shot. Playing lots of minutes. He deserves the contract he’s going to sign.
I can’t believe this list of names over Ferland... talk about grass is greener or some kind of history. I’d take him over every name you list except Stone.
