Why should I have to see such a nasty and untrue comment like this on a hockey website. Really ruined my evening with your moronic racism.

I think the hesitation with Quine has been that he'd require waivers to go back down to the AHL and I think it's pretty clear at this point that neither dube or mangi are ahead of him and he should have that spot for the remainder of the season.

I think the perception by the league was that teams were playing for the tie, back when ties were a thing.
One in the hand is worth two in the bush.

These games are on sportsnetworks, it's not like they are cutting into primetime television anymore, what is Sportsnet or NBC sports "bumping" for more overtime, highlights? Come On.

They wanted to show two games on one night, of course even that's not a good reason anymore seeing as how every sports network has 93 channels.

Americans hate ties. Even though it doesn't happen often they absolutely hate it when a football game ends in a tie. The NHL doesn't want to send fans home without a winner being declared. Ties will likely never return and I'm fine with that.
I don't foresee any changes that would make the games longer. If you look at the AAF (basically a trial league for the NFL) it's all about making games quicker as the trend in sports is to speed up the games.

I've occasionally suggested that they should try making the shootout a pre-game thing.
Winner of the SO wins if the game ends in a tie, just like now. Only difference is, since you know who that is, the team that's behind (or tied but without the SO win advantage) needs to get it done before regulation time is over.
You could remove the OT, and since every game starts with a SO, they all last more or less the same. (Unless the SO runs long.)
Never going to happen obviously

What? The comment he or she quoted was clearly and blatantly racist. It means exactly what they think it means.

You are also confused, while not a nice comment, it certainly isn't racism, because the French are not a race.

Want to make the game quicker here are some suggestions.
Start the game when it is scheduled to start. Puck drop at 7:00 not 7:10 after anthems starting ceremonies etc.
Timeouts - less or shorter - not going to happen - less revenue.
Shorter intermissions - could they not be 15- 18 minutes instead of 20.
If you could make the games shorter then when OT does happen an extra 5 minutes in OT would not matter.

I have always wondered why they don't change up the offside rule, that would take out 5 or 10 stoppages a night, allow play to continue with offside players and only stop the play if they touch the puck, sort of like soccer

I’ll join in. More discretionary calls on icing, and a return to calling the intent.
The idea behind icing was to punish a team, stop them from icing the puck when they are hemmed in the zone under pressure. I am pretty sure it was not put in place to penalize stretch pass attempts that barely miss.
Also I have seen icings called where the puck crosses the face off circle but doesn’t even have enough momentum to cross the goal line
Clean that up

You are both wrong.
There are multiple definitions and uses of the word 'race'. Today, it more commonly refers to groups with differing physical characteristics, but it has also always been used to define cultural groups.
Dictionary result for race /rās/
noun: race; plural noun: races
a group of people sharing the same culture, history, language, etc.; an ethnic group.
"we Scots were a bloodthirsty race then"
The original comment was in fact blatantly racist.
