Why not promote Eakins as interim and see if he's worth considering full time? He's one of those guys you would like to test before hiring.

Randy named as Edmonton's new coach the day after the season ends.

Their AHL team the Gulls are doing well I believe and Murray doesn't want to throw anyone into this tire fire of a team this year.

It could be a good indicator of how much they have gone full Oiler. Eakins probably still has ptsd from that stint.

Murray has employed Eakins for 4 years now, he knows what he has as far as systems, techniques/player feedback etc.

Murray needs to find out whats going on with the players now and the best way is to be there day in and day out, make your changes from now til draft day and then give Eakins/new guy the reins with a new club and clean slate.

At least in theory that makes some sense.

Sucks for Edmonton. If you’re an sought after, available head coach where would you rather work? Anaheim >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Edmonton.

Yeah Murray knows the Peter Horacek effect would be in full force right now. Why ruin another man's coaching career by putting him in this mess. Get in there and find out who might actually still care.

Definitely should have happened after that Winnipeg game where his own players were telling him - publicly and on the bench - to get Gibson off the ice rather than continue to embarrass the goaltender.

Gibson will keep them out of bottom 5? They are 4th worst right now, and falling.

In the ten games since Carlyle was as given the vote of confidence the ducks have given up 38 goals

It's worse than that. In their current seven game losing streak they've been outscored 37-8.

Fyp. I have no love for the Ducks. I am enjoying their misery as any Flames fan should.

We should grab Gibson while the ducks are in a disarray.

Gotta think that's Bo-Bandy's last tour in the NHL.

They should have given him another 20 games just to make sure their season was sunk.
