Might be a good idea. Skip the draft, and the next draft can include this year and next year's eligible players, and make the draft 12 rounds.

Almost time for those "this guy scored" memes we liked to bust out on the Oil, except now the jokes on us...

I wouldn't be surprised if ownership puts the freeze on the roster and coaching staff for review in the offseason where they may opt to clean house. That's probably the best thing for the organization as they don't have to worry about paying fans watching the rest of this season play out. Getting a high draft pick will excite fans as will a new regime bring optimism as they have to sell tickets for next season.
Was this, king the same thing. They are probably discussing options, I doubt they do anything. I think the better option is to go for the pick now in case next season turns out to be a partial rebuild. Give the team a head start .

The frustrating thing is that this season can still be saved. They just have to finish ahead of the Habs, Sens, and Nucks. Then it's a first-round matchup with the top-playoff choking team in history.

But they gotta do something now. And the only thing you can do fast is fire coaches.

Just the flames luck, as they appear to be heading to a year where they could tank to land some top picks, the draft will be a complete crap shoot if and when it does eventually take place....

Even so, seems like the time to have as many picks as possible, as there could be a few gems sprinkled throughout all the rounds in the next draft.

That being said, do you feel we may see a year or two of really weak draft classes given the limited games and time for development in the global development leagues??

Yeah, Ward isn't getting fired.

I like Lucic, but would it hurt him to be big bad Lucic again? I think last night would have been the perfect time for him to take a page out of Iggy's playbook and spark the team by fighting Gudbranson after he went after Rasmus, could have changed the game. That would have been leadership.

Saved for what? Sneaking in and getting immediately knocked out again? Who cares. Tear it all down and give us a team that doesn't waste our ####ing time for 82 games by just getting dummied in the playoffs.

Well if so, that's completely inexcusable. Treliving woefully prepared the team for the upcoming season to begin with by leaving an underachieving group largely intact and now the franchise is propping up players like Bennett who have made public the fact that they want out. Just a complete circus.

Everything I've seen from this team for the last 12-15 months since the Peters fiasco reeks of management that is completely out of answers at this point, bordering on incompetence.

I agree that clip doesn't look great on Bennett and his coverage is soft at best. However, I wouldn't let Nesterov off the hook. He has nobody covered for that whole clip. At the start of the clip you see Valimaki trying to direct Nesterov but Nesterov doesn't get on the same page. At the end you see Bennett attempt to switch off with Nesterov to cover the third guy high and Nesterov again doesn't pick it up or Bennett provides zero communication... or both. In that instant both Nesterov and Bennett are covering no one. It's an oversimplification to say that is only a Bennett issue but it definitely is a great example of how our d-zone still sucks.

Kassian did it just last year to Tkachuk.

Yes it is still a thing in the league if someone wants too.

This is the Ď5 dots on the side of a dieí defensive structure. Ottawa stays outside and high. This pulls forward the Flames D. Bennett now has to choose between the opposition C and maintaining the Flames structure

That genius DJ Smith outsmarted Wardo

Brilliant

If that's the case then I think you fire him and let his successor figure out what's what.

Flames were bad but one thing I want to say is the narrative that Ottawa should have been some easy push over is a bit false too.

They have been a lot better since they stopped trotting out Hogberg in net as much (he might have been the worst NHL goalie I've ever seen positionally), and Murray has turned his game around abit.

Since Feb 1 they have actually been a little better than the Flames:

Sens: 7-8-0
Flames: 7-8-1

And playing a lot better overall if you look at their advanced metrics in that time (51.1% Corsi For which is 10th in the league in that time frame).

Goaltending still isn't great with an .898 but it's substantially better than January where it was just a disaster at .845 and they went 1-7-1.

Tkachuck did a whole lot of that last year. I remember clearly the fight with Miller after the Canucks scored a quick goal. Watson tried it just last game and failed cause he picked the wrong guy to fight. I'm not saying Lucic needed to fight Gudbranson just for the Rasmus thing, I'm saying it was the perfect time to fight because of that incident and also because the team was flat and needed a spark.

If Lucic wants to come out and talk and blame his teammates, then he has to be THAT player. Talk is easy.
