They should turn all the golf courses in Calgary into affordable housing units.

Not a topic, but I scroll right past any threads where people are trying really hard to be funny. Posters who think they're hilarious and always have to type up the same hack quips.
I've been visiting this site everyday for well over 15 years and can't remember laughing once. Perhaps I listen to far too many comedy podcasts and radio shows, any attempt at humour here is pretty piss poor in my opinion. I always imagine a lot of Big Bang Theory and Friends type of people thinking this place is hilarious.

Has anyone mentioned watches?
I don't get it. I have one nice watch that was a gift. People see it and immediately think im a "watch guy" and start talking about watches and showing me theirs. I do not care. It's ######y.
also sneakers are a thing that people accumulate now? WTF?

I find this thread nearly indistinguishable from the Grinds My Gears one. it's not that easy to separate what you really don't care about from what irritates you every time it's mentioned.

How former Flame players are doing now or more specifically inferring there is a the correlation that since they are doing x on their new team that would have also applied had they stayed. I’m fine with “oh look, former Flame is now doing well, good for him.” but that isn’t often the point of the discussion. I’m assuming this is going on in a certain recent trade thread that I have not ventured into...

I find it strange when middle aged people haven't outgrown video gaming as their #1 past time activity.
We've all been there... helplessly addicted, 5AM, dripping with hand sweat, disheveled, legs asleep and every crevasse peppered with cheeto crumbs.
But at some point in life don't you look out a window and think "I'd like to do real stuff, out there"?
To each their own, but I guess I just outgrew it... or wanted more than cheap dopamine hits from leveling up in a simulation that doesn't actually exist.
It would be nice to not want more than that.

I often ask this, when this sort of debate comes around. Can you please list the approved "adult" hobbies then?

Wouldn't anything like movies, TV, books, watching sports etc all fit this argument?

In a sense. I guess it's about everything in moderation. If you had video games, but also books, shows, hobbies and outdoor activities, you'd be getting a healthy balance of fun, physical activity, cultivating skills and acquiring knowledge.
I just get concerned about friends who I know binge on games and Netflix solely, and have taken it even further than normal through the pandemic. Maybe cause I've been there, and after enough over-indulging it just feels wasteful after the fact. Maybe those people are wired differently and don't mind it. And that's fair. But I just couldn't.
I'm thinking if you have a good balance of things then it's easy to feel good about how you spend your time and what you're getting out of it.
I know some people who approach games like a story and invest in the narrative of the games, so that's an interesting perspective as well, and adds an element to the experience.
