We need Cascadia to rise up

Wexit only had 15% support in Alberta

Cascadia independence has shown 38% support.

I personally would hate to leave Canada but Canadian politics do favour Quebec and Ontario to much .

This is the problem with media in the United States, and beginning to be a problem in Canada as well. There is little truth in media and you can't trust what you have read. I've fallen for that more than a few times, trusting what a once trustworthy source says, only to find shoddy reporting didn't disclose enough or appropriate detail. The news outlets have become content providers. It's time for a return of the Mayflower and Fairness doctrines so we can reclaim the truth and the media can get back to being our mechanism to speak truth to power.

A big problem with the news is that there is very little money in it now. Independent shows with audience's comparable to the flag ship news shows on the big networks usually have production teams of >10 people and the anchors make less than 1/10th what the big network anchors do, the difference being corporate support and way more commercials. There isn't a path towards becoming more trustworthy that can maintain profitability. The only path available to them is to continue the decline into lazy corporate and political propaganda, because that's the only place where there is still big money left to be made.

Pretty much this. But it’s not incompetence - it’s deliberate. Any professional reporter or editor knows the details necessary to give a story context. And they know exactly what they’re doing when they leave out essential context.

This isn’t nearly as much of a problem with local media, which still tends to follow traditional journalistic values. It’s also why people say they trust local media more. It’s at the national level that the news media have become unprecedentedly partisan and biased. Unfortunately, news and politics are becoming increasingly national, with is bad for society in all kinds of ways.

Wait it doesn't look like "Cascadia" included Alberta.

If I was a conspiracy theorist I would totally believe that media intentionally falsifies information to make it much less clear cut to give CNN vs Fox News hits as they both push their own viewers narratives for views. I mean sure controversy sells so it's not a surprise that the biggest cases are ones filled with them but too many have just been wrong, but not wrong enough to really change view points, just enough to make each side fight on message boards and have to see new articles to get updated information. I'm just not sure if our Reptilians Overlords care enough to do so. But look at the big cases:

Trayvon Martin
Initial media report: Racist white man sees Black kid in neighbourhood and assumes him to be a thief based on race. Racist confronts and attacks the kid and when he begins to lose the fight he shoots. 911 phonecall doctored by NBC to push narrative that race was central to the event.
Truth: Hispanic neighbourhood watch wanna-be cop sees suspicious person of unknown race, stalks him but loses him and the person goes back to confront Zimmerman.

Breonna Taylor
Initial media report: Cops execute warrant at wrong house, shoot a woman laying in her bed as her boyfriend tries to protect her.
Truth: Cops execute warrant at right house, shoot a woman who they have a search warrant for while she stands next to her boyfriend in narrow hallway as gun fight breaks out.

Michael Brown

Initial media report: Innocent Black kid with his arms up is shot and killed by police in the back.
Truth: Black 6'4'' adult robs convenience store, violently assault officer in his vehicle instead of listening to commands, is shot in hand but retreats from the vehicle. Officer pursues the man and the man turns towards the officer and is shot in the front with his hands down.

Jacob Blake
Initial media report: Black man only present to break up fight is shot in the back unarmed.
Truth: Gone over this enough, but the media latched on to the one witness who said he couldn't see a knife and not the fact that a knife was found, the officers were heard yelling to drop it, and even video footage showing an object in hand.

In the case of Michael Brown you do have witnesses who later retracted or contradicted their statements so it's somewhat plausible that media was just following witness accounts but they did not care for the ones that collaborated the truth. There's no reason for media to have mislead the facts on the Breonna Taylor case that this was a case of wrong apartment. And there's certainly no defense in the Zimmerman case as NBC intentionally altered the 911 call to change the narrative (Zimmerman began stalking Martin before he knew what race he was).

Don't get me wrong, Zimmerman was an idiot for playing cop that night going against the 911 operator's suggestion to follow him. #### him sideways. And even if Breonna Taylor's ex was using her apartment as a means to deal drugs, no-knock warrants for petty drug offenses like that are remarkably unjust and dangerous. And maybe Wilson had other means to stop the unarmed Brown. I am just saying the initial facts did not at all reflect an accurate story that was available to media at the time. And of course new information like the warrant mistakenly saying that the post office had confirmed suspicious packages being false isn't something they could have reported on at the time.

And yet then there is these ones that seem to take a backseat:

Atatiana Jefferson
Police called to investigate an open door begin sneaking around outside the house. A 28 year old woman caring for her nephew hears and sees the suspicious figures and takes out a gun and is shot by police through the window.

Laquan McDonald
Executed by Chicago officer as he lay on the ground already shot. Cover-up by pretty much all officers involved including the intentional tampering of body-cams.

Walter Scott
Shot in the back as he ran unarmed.

Philando Castile
Shot for telling officers he had a gun during a pretextual traffic stop that was probably racial profiling in nature. Outside of his usage of weed, which the officer would not have known, the gun carrying was legal. Officer acquitted and others acquitted of conspiracy in the cover-up. If "Mom, please stop cussing and screaming 'cause I don't want you to get shooted" isn't the most heartbreaking thing ever said outside of maybe Elijah McClain's last words...

Sam Dubose
Shot in the head for possibly (likely) trying to flee traffic stop. Officer acquitted.

Rekia Boyd
Off duty cop shoots from vehicle at group of people killing one. Says he thought cell-phone was gun, acquitted.

Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford Jr.
Finally looking like that mythical "good guy with a gun" that we hear so much about. Except the cops shoot and kill him while responding to a mall shooting incorrectly believing him to be the perpetrator.

Stephon Clark
New father shot several times, mostly in back, with cellphone in hand. No charges.

Chad Robertson
Fleeing from an officer, reaches into pocket to drop weed. Is shot and killed. Officer found not guilty.

Corey Jones
Vehicle broke down and while waiting for help is approached by plaincothes police officer who does not announce him as an officer. Jones has a concealed licence permit and is shot as it appears he tried to run from what looked like attempted robbery to him. Fortunately he was on a call being recorded and its clear that the officer never announced who he was in contrast to his statements and he was sentenced to 25 years. Without that phone call, he's probably not even charged.

And a ton of accidental deaths with less justification than Taylor's:
Betty Jones
Officer responding to a 911 call find erratic man with baseball bat. Officer unfortunately not being equipped with Lanny's baseball bat forcefield shoots at the assailant and accidentally hits and kills Jones.

I'd like to include Daniel Prude but I'll be fair to media because it seems like those involved were intentionally trying to prevent the media getting information in light of Floyd's death. Of course there's Eric Garner, Freddie Gray, Botham Jean and most notably George Floyd. And maybe Floyd case destroys the conspiracy as it's obvious even while watching an officer kill a man over nine minutes that people will believe it was justified if Fox News tells them so.

Thank goodness. That was a tough video to watch, full on stalk and murder in broad daylight, and recorded the whole thing. Just brutal.

Not malice murder for the father and neighbour, just felony murder. Probably fair.

Oh, and it doesn't even matter really. Minimum sentence is still life in prison with chance of parole after 30 depending on sentence. Nice.

Yup. Basically a modern-day lynching of black man carried out by racists. Very happy these guys will likely get life in prison.

All three will very likely work as essentially slaves in the Georgia prison system for the remainder of their lives:

"Pat Biegler, director of the Georgia Public Works department stated that the prison labor system implemented in Georgia facilities saves the department around US$140,000 per week.[39] The largest county prison work camp in Columbus, Georgia, Muscogee County Prison, saves the city around $17 to US$20 million annually according to officials, with local entities also benefiting from the monetary funds the program receives from the state of Georgia.[39] According to Prison Warden of Muscogee County Prison, Dwight Hamrick, the top priority is to provide prison labor to Columbus Consolidated Government and to rehabilitate inmates, with all inmates being required to work. Inmates performing tasks related to sanitation, golf course, recycling, and landfill receive a monetary compensation of around US$3 per day, while those in jobs such as facility maintenance, transportation, and street beautification do not receive any compensation.[39]"

I wouldn't even say basically. It meets the true definition of a lynching: the extrajudicial killing based on an alleged offense without trial.

Now that the McMichaels have been found guilty, lets take a moment to recognize what a piece of #### George H Barnhill is. Concluded that there was not even probable cause to arrest them and yet a jury saw the same video and evidence and determined they were murderers beyond a reasonable doubt.

Imagine if these imbeciles didn't think having a lawyer leak the video would exonerate them. They're probably walking free without charges thanks to Barnhill.

Both cases were similar in that once the facts came out it was very clear what the outcome should be.

And also both had POS prosecutors that behaved in rats inconsistent with the values of a Western liberal democracy. At least the Aubrey side fixed that

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted here yet.

I generally like Devin's takes, and find he tries to be as unbiased and factual as possible.

Great video Maritime. Essential watching, I think, especially for people like BoLevi who seem confused about the whole thing. Hearing from an actual trial lawyer might help.

It almost felt like he read all of Bo Levi’s posts before making the video.

Glad he made the point at the end about the not guilty verdict not meaning he's innocent of wrongdoing, and that if Grosskreutz did indeed shoot Rittenhosue he could very well be found not guilty as well, for the same reasons

Someone posted a Legal Eagle video, without expecting to get laughed at? Ok.

I'll watch it and see if he says anything interesting.
