Woman gets jail for cocaine smuggling
Haha, a 29-year-old Quebec woman got a 7.5-year sentence for smuggling $30.5 million of cocaine into Australia. She and a friend had the drugs on a cruise ship and regularly posted their exploits on Instagram. Her partners in crime are yet to go to trial.
Isabelle Lagace complained that media coverage of her case has embarrassed her and her family. Criminals are stupid. Maybe this should go in the what-makes-me-happy thread.
Quote:
"It pains me to know my defining moments of womanhood will be spent in prison halfway around the world," she said.

Quote:
"This will haunt me for the rest of my life."
Lagacé pleaded guilty in December. Counting the time she has already served behind bars, she will be eligible for parole in February 2021.
She and two other Quebecers, 64-year-old André Tamine and 23-year-old Mélina Roberge, were arrested Aug. 29, 2016, after the cruise ship they were travelling on, Sea Princess, docked in Sydney.

7.5 years? That's almost worth the risk.

I don't entirely disagree. That's a pretty light sentence.
Also, really enjoyed the numerous images of the bikini-clad smuggler.

There are a lot of these "all expense paid" trips happening across the world all the time. I have read stories about people got tricked into these trips and then were asked to bring back some tourist souvenirs home where the person didn't even know there were drugs hidden inside. They thought they just won a contest or something...

who would have ever have thought getting caught transporting $30 mill of that stuff would result in embarrassment to her and her family......I assuming that her defining moment of womanhood will be as a result of some prision style defiling
looks like her instagram account is private; however, it notes her as "currently travelling"

I'm hardly going to feel bad for a parasite who smuggles life destroying drugs like this.
There is nothing to feel bad about except the shortness of her sentence.

Is this really newsworthy enough to warrant its own thread?

There was a total of 90 kg of cocaine. This is not some small souvenir with something hidden inside.

That would explain the ability to smuggle 90 Kilos in a bathing suit

How could she think she could get away with 200lbs of coke in a suitcase?
Maybe if she threw it overboard in the middle of the night with a homing beacon before they got to Australia?

It pains me to think that when she is released from prison she will be still of child bearing age and that her genetic material still has the possibility of being passed on to an innocent child.

In this case, the "ex porn star" knowingly doing so for the money, but there are instances where the "contest winners" didn't even know they were being used to smuggle drugs. But these people are not completely innocent either. Free trips? That's too good to be true....

I thought it was common knowledge that Australia has some of the toughest and most thorough customs agents in the world. Apparently not.

She wasn't exactly a kingpin here. She was a patsy that was paid $20k. She probably didn't know how much cocaine she had and was in no way involved in the operation besides picking up and dropping off a bag.
That was a horribly dumb thing to do for a vacation and $20k.
