I like both deals, the team looks significantly better than it did a week ago
I'd love to add a top 6 winger before the season starts and I think we're set

Ya, I googled just to see if they were actually related.

They really are, now hopefully he doesn't ruin it by throwing big dollars at a guy like Neil.

Some people are getting way too worked up over this deal. I’m going to take the wait and see approach but based on everything I’ve read so far, this guy should be a good addition to the bottom 6.

Can we afford to? I'm hearing that Bobby is a package deal with Karlsson!

Still not a fan. Flames get smaller and a coach gets a favorite to rely upon. His underlying stats don’t align with the role suggested, and he doesn’t have the speed some are suggesting.

The term and cap hit is manageable, which is a positive. The only problem is that if his production is not repeatable in Calgary, teams will look at his age, lack of history, and quickly lose interest if the Flames have to move him (see Troy Brouwer).

Ryan isn't even Bobby's real last name.

If you don't know the story, you should definitely Google it. It's crazy.

No disrespect meant directly to you, but this is an example of people jumping down others throats when opinions clash.
I didn't infer anything like that in my post. In fact I said that I wished the flames had offered perron more money than he got in st louis as I think it still would have been a better addition than derek Ryan at this current salary. This is too much money for a mediocre middle six player.

I just don't see a lot of use in the "I would have rather had ..." comments because it's not just money. Players have teams they'd be willing to sign with and teams that wouldn't have a chance regardless of cash.
My gut would say the Flames probably had talks with about a dozen players that they would have liked too, but were told either not interested, or only interested at a term or dollar level that would have been foolish.

It’s not the contract that I wanted but the fit should be perfect IF Ryan is as good as he’s supposed to be. Hopefully he can succeed here.
Sort of the same thing I said about Brouwer when he signed, but I’m optimistic for now.

Not sure I'd be quoting that guy, not the best analysis of things. To suggest he only gets points because he's playing with a goal scorer kind of misses the point doesn't it?
Can't argue he's small.
But also can't argue face off stats, and the fact that the player is 1st-3rd in any relative possession statistic on the Hurricanes last year. Manny's WAR model had him top six (which is questionable), but there isn't a lot statistically to not support the player out there.

I’d suggest people watch that Hanifin highlight video from that trade thread as well - Ryan was very noticeable in positive ways throughout that video. Didn’t seem like he was just riding as a passenger at all to me from that video.
