Look, I don't think he's the worst coach ever and I think he's a downright good assistant.
But the guy just doesn't call timeouts. I don't get it. If I'm the Flames' coach, I'm freaking out on the bench with anxiety and I have no idea what I'm doing, but I would've called timeouts on like ten separate occasions this year.
Has Ward even called one? A single one?

We've had worse coaches. There are areas that Ward is weak in and he is only interim coach. We'll have a new coach next season.

He's a bad head coach that's being dragged along by good talent. Pretty simple.
Best thing we can hope for as Flames fans is the Flames make the Playoffs, somehow make a little run but hope management is still smart enough to recognize Ward should be as far away from this team as the head coach as possible

Players weren't ready at the start of this game and putting a struggling goalie against one of the hottest teams in the league right now puts him right there with Gulatzan. Maybe he needs a bigger video screen in the F*&^%*g floor. Has he called a timeout yet this year? Washington's powerplay was good because of one of the most prolific goal scorers to ever play the game and had nothing to do with the coach it is painfully obvious.

What is the fetish with timeouts? There are three time outs every period.

Sure and then whoever the coach is next year will be the worst hire ever and next one the same. The common denominator is a top line (can it be called that lately?) that can disappear for long stretches.

In my mind, Geoff Ward is about the same as Brent Sutter.
Far better than Gulutzan, but way worse than Darryl Sutter and probably Bob Hartley.

Not at the most crucial times of the game when you need to rest your top guys and give your team a chance to settle down after letting in an awful goal.
Tonight's game was a weird fluky loss but why not give your guys a breather late?

They got scored on and there was a face-off at centre. That’s a timeout of sorts. He was going to be pulling the goalie and in all likelihood there could be a faceoff in the offensive zone and likely wanted a timeout of that occurred.
As far as resting his top guys, they weren’t on the ice when they got scored on (except Tkachuk) so they should have been rested.
For such a usually results oriented crowd here, Ward’s record seems to be ignored.

Ward's record as head coach since taking over is 24-14-3 coming into tonight. That's a winning percentage of .622.
Here's where he ranks among Flames coaches over the last few decades with that percentage.
1. Terry Crisp .669
2. Geoff Ward .622
3. Bill Peters .614
4. Mike Keenan. 585
5. Darryl Sutter .581
6. Dave King .576
7. Brent Sutter. 557
8. Doug Risebrough .552
9. Bob Johnson .548
10. Glen Gulutzan .543
It's a very safe statement to say that Ward is a perfectly acceptable head coach, possibly one of the better ones we've had considering he's improved on Peters' record and that was the best season since 1989. Hard to say how good he is since it's been a shortened season, but considering the roster he's been given, he's doing a terrific job.
/end thread.

People will say it’s because of the new coach bump. Which is a myth. Teams go on losing streaks or continue the same pattern as before as often as not after a new coach. Look at Calgary’s history for examples.

I hope that ANYONE from management will see this thread and actually tell our head coach to get his head out of you know where.
I don’t think Ritter singlehandedly lost this game but he looks lost out there.
Ok, I am done my rant. I never start threads - but I have had enough with some of the worst head coaching decisions I have ever seen since following this team.

Worst head coach ever? Do we need a thread like this everytime the Flames lose? I think some fans need a new hobby.

On starting Rittich, Talbot started 3 games in a row, and last game, though he won, he didn’t look quite as solid. You have to play Rittich at some point no matter how many Talbot wins in a row. One out of four starts seems pretty reasonable to me, especially since you probably need both guys going for the POs.
