Those NMCs sure are tricky. Forgot Stammer had one of them but I should've assumed. Man that'd be awesome though.
Point still stands though. Forget Zucker, Kessel, Kadri... I think Treliving has a target in mind that none of us have even thought of as plausible yet.

Brodie is getting $6 at the VERY least on the open market. $7 isn't out of the question -- honestly I think it's realistic. He's a defenseman with good underlying stats playing big minutes. Shattenkirk got $7 million when the cap was a fair bit lower and Brodie is a better player (and I think a little younger, if memory serves).
If Brodie is getting at least $6 then the Flames should definitely be moving him this off-season. I see $6.5 max for Brodie.
It's starting to sound like he fancies playing out east. The Rangers have been discussed as a possibility on 960 this week. Part of me was hoping the Sharks would have signed him to a massive deal as I feel he's going to decline sharply in the coming years.

Starting to actually like the Karlsson trade for the Sens. Laugh at the Six Assets meme all you want but Tierney, Balcers, Norris, DeMelo, a first, and a second isn't a bad haul for a year of an injury-plagued declining star defenseman.

This was San Jose's shot. It didn't go in. I think it's best for Karlsson to go somewhere knowing he's there for seven years, and thus he feels free to take an extra few months to let his groin heal up properly. The guy is a warrior, but he needs to take six months.

I think that is right, SJ needs to rebuild, and signing Karlsson for 8 years doesn't fit that equation.
Of course, I've been saying for years SJ needs to rebuild.

In the last 5 drafts the Sharks have drafted a total of 33 times.
11 of those picks have been in the first 3 rounds. 4 of 5 drafts they've picked in the 1st round.

Couture (29), Kane (27), Hertl (25) are signed for term. Lebanc and Meier RFAs.
Burns (34), Vlasic (32) aren't young defenders anymore but are still top defenders in the league signed for term. ####, Burns scored 83 points last year.
They are without 1st and 2nd round picks this year, but something tells me on draft day they will pick at least once in those two rounds.
Yeah i dont think a team that just finished 2 games short of the Stanley Cup finals needs a rebuild.
Maybe an on the fly retool, but that team isnt going to start selling off assets for picks,
I suppose the Sharks could let Pavelski and Thornton walk, keep Karlsson, and give the C to Couture.
I don't see them letting Pavelski hit July 1; I think he's retiring a fish. San Jose has also had a ton of luck with older players - maybe the climate agrees with them. But guys don't decline the same way in Northern California for some reason.

Thornton will stay in SJ, and be the last to sign. Whatever they have left he’ll take on a one year.

Take a look at their free agent list and explain how they keep it together? Guys like Meier and lebanc are getting paid and will take up half or more of the cap space. Joe, Joe Karlsson donskoi not getting a combined 12 mil and even if big Joe retires they will feel that loss even if he isn't as good as he once was
