My dog had a spleen tumor and a splenectomy too. It's a tough one but kudos for going through with the surgery and giving him the best chance at life. It's precious and even though it didn't work out you did an amazing thing. Thanks in real life!

Ugh, I'm really sorry wretched34.

We had to cut our vacation a day short and came home because our cat wasn't doing well, took him in for an emergency urinary catheter to flush his bladder after he got blocked. He's doing well now it seems, but it's my biggest fear he'll relapse suddenly.

I'm sorry to hear that wretched34. I'm sure he had a great home and life thanks to you. Knowing that always gives me a little bit of comfort when I think about my old dog. I hope it does the same for you.

I went through a divorce, death of a parent, all in another city, and I only cried after I heard that my childhood dog was put down. Something about a pet just symbolizes all the good times in life and when they go, it can feel like all the good times go with it. My sincerest sympathy.

Warning. This post is very emotionally charged, heart warming, and heart wrenching all at once. It is a beautiful yet raw view from the eyes of a vet.

My friend had someone send her this on Monday. The Wednesday before her family had to say goodbye to their beautiful Golden Retriever, Shiloh. She took the rest of last week off and today when we talked she said it’s the first day she hasn’t cried. It’s devastating.

My wife and I just had to put our 13 year old shepherd down a few days ago... that "How your vet sees euthanasia" really tugs on the heart strings.... like as in I better close my office door and not talk to anybody for the next 15 minutes.

- It was a tough weekend coming to the decision and knowing what was happening to our dog. I appreciate everyone sharing their stories in this thread. I sure hope it gets a bit easier tomorrow.

I have all his stuff laying around the house still and don't know what to do with it. Do I leave it for a few days or put it away now? I had daily routines of changing water bowls, etc and now I don't know what to do.

Give it time but keep some items for your best memories. It could be their favorite toy, their name tage, their best bandana, whatever, just keep something.

Food bowls and the like can be kept for another pet if you see that in your future. Otherwise, they can be donated. If you don't know of people who have the same size dog as you do, your vet can find good homes for them.

I still have my dog's toy box in the family room. It's been 8 years. I have her collar hanging on the wall. I have her picture on my fridge. It all helps. I am sincerely sorry for your loss.

Tonight my 22 year old hairless Sphynx passed. I am pretty broken up about it, the most affectionate cat I ever had. I will miss my warm snuggle buddy.
