I've read everything you've written. Unfortunately.

Your premise is essentially that one segment of the population, as defined by age, doesn't vote in society's best interests, and therefore their votes shouldn't count. Or at least, shouldn't count as much. It's ridiculous, and it's just a veiled way of saying 'they want different things than me, so I want my vote to count more.'

And your arguments are so strong that you've resorted to trying to insult me.

You really need to stop.

I don’t know what’s more out there: the suggestion to have a voting cut off age, or that people don’t have the interests of their kids in mind.

When I watched that the first thing that came to my mind was that he forgot his kid's name.

The divorce after he's out of office and Barron's book years from now will be quite interesting.

Can we down-weight the votes of the technologically inept?

Writing xtians is silly by the way. Unless you're 14 and trying to be edgy.

Imagine a system when some entitled ####head gets to decide whether your vote counts, because he has decided that your vote is wrong because it doesn't agree with his.

You and I have VASTLY different definitions of democracy.

My proposal for electoral improvement would be to add a small quiz that the voter has to do after making their selections. They are given 5 multiple choice questions on the platform of their chosen candidate, simple questions if you spend a few minutes on their campaign website. Get them all right, 100% of your vote counts. You lose 10% of your vote for every one you get wrong. Just a simple way to give informed voters a bigger voice over those too lazy or willfully ignorant to learn what their candidates actually stand for

Do you think that the informed electorate has much different voting patterns than the uniformed electorate? Iím not sure youíd see that much of a difference.

Since fear based voting is such a motivator right now Iíd be more interested in a quiz on what you know about the Candidate you didnít vote for. Is Obama a secret Muslim? Do the democrats plan to take away all guns. Did Trump criminally conspire with Russia

Democracy had a good run, but I think it's time to hang up the ballot boxes. We'll do a few years of dictatorships, bloody coups, occasional anarchy, etc... But by the time my grandkids come along, the AI government-bots will be running things smoothly.

Oh, I've heard of something like this before! It was called a literacy test, and it was a perfect way to disenfranchise voters, not unlike what Fuzz was advocating for.

https://slate.com/human-interest/201...ck-voters.html

Go ahead, take the test. You have just 10 minutes to get every single question right.

A few quick thoughts on this early morning.

1. I love the discussion around changing the voting system. I love new ways to look at democracy. As previously stated we already don't count every vote the same, perhaps a change is needed to balance things? Regardless, some of the best ideas come by discussing the absurd and working backward from there (not saying any ideas presented are absurd, just that it's ok to argue that as a starting point to get ideas flowing).

2. Can we split the voting system discussion into it's own thread? *checks title of thread* The US politics thread isn't the best spot for it.

We already have a voting cut-off age: its 18.
