So Neal thinks the answers are in the room, and he didn't have an opportunity to do well in Calgary? What he found in Calgary was competition for the spot he was payed to play - and he failed miserably. Also, a month or two is a hiccup. There's no reason a vet is that useless an entire year and can't recover - to the point where he's scratched for the make-or-break game. He lost a step and never learned how to contribute, and it doesn't sound like he spent a lot of time honestly evaluating that.

Which is fantastic news for us, but not for that pick. If Neal didn't honestly look at his game and try and evolve this offseason, if he really thinks it was a hiccup, I'm so excited. He wasn't even close last year and a season of Oiler isn't going to make him any better. Hopefully Smith has the same confidence in his game last year

Best case scenario is we see Neal pot 40 Putin-style. The highlights are hilarious and we still get the pick, but they're still losing nightly. Neal could be a great foosball character to pop 1 or 2 McDavid gimmies

Sensitive much, Edmonton?

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...ly-ridiculous/

Quote:
When the Calgary Flames acquired Milan Lucic, few could have envisioned anyone would have to step in to defend the rugged winger.

However, thatís exactly what Flames GM Brad Treliving did upon hearing that Lucicís innocuous comments at the teamís golf tourney had riled up Oilers faithful.

Lucic said Wednesday he put too much pressure on himself "to overachieve" in Edmonton, and felt being surrounded by veterans in Calgary would allow him be more comfortable and successful.

"Your captain and your leader is in his thirties and heís an older guy and I had a lot of experience with that with Zdeno Chara in Boston, and that seemed to obviously work out really well," said the former Oiler, alluding to Flames captain Mark Giordano.

The comments infuriated fans of his former team in Edmonton who saw it as a direct swipe at their 22-year-old captain, Connor McDavid.

"Totally ridiculous," said Treliving of the insinuation Thursday.

"I know heís close with Connor. I know what he thinks of him as a player and a person. I donít see him taking a swipe at Connor Ė no way."

I do admit that we Flames fans tend to rip on leaving players (ie. Hamilton and Neal) but man they sure have some hate on for Lucic now up in Edmonton. it would be glorious if Lucic could pull off a half decent year.

I guess what I'm saying is, as an Oiler fan, be careful what you wish for.
Pucks put in the net during warmups don't count as goals on the stats sheet.

Yeah that was quite the overreaction by Oiler fans and media.

I guess when your organization is that horrible for that long there’s going to be some pent up anger. Pretty funny to watch.

I don't know of any Edmonton fans that were upset over Lucic's comments.

Everyone is just happy he's gone.

Seems like Francis is trying to create drama where there is none.

Says more about today's standards of journalism than anything else. Might as well scan Calgarypuck for the 3 fans that have an axe to grind against Gaudeau and write an article about it. Hah.

Edmonton is no good.

Also, Eric Francis is no good.

Yes, these things are not mutually exclusive.

Are you serious? Do you live in Edmonton? I guess I had just assumed you did! But regardless you must not do much social media or visit HFoil because the majority of the online Oilerworld seems pretty upset about this whole thing?? It sure seems from what I have read and come across that a good number of people are sure doing some panty twisting

Remember 2002 when we had a perennial loser team that had a total of one player anyone outside our fan based remotely noticed? That making a top 10 highlight for that player made us so proud anyone even took the time to watch and record our embarrassment of a team?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

2002? Hmm, was that one of the years Edmonton was no good? It starts with a number so I'm pretty sure it was.

I hear if you feed “name a year Edmonton was no good, and inverse of good” into a computer it goes into a infinite loop until it overheats and explodes.

I can't get over the Oiler twitterverse of late ... a lot of anger.

And an odd need to get very homophobic almost instantly when you bring annoying things like facts and data into a discussion.

Oiler fans are like Trump supporters, they prefer alternative facts.

You must mean the truth, Trumpís embellishments aside...but I donít think the Oilers fans know the truth. I love how Trump suckers the media in, but whatís even more entertaining is how they fall for it every time - much like Oiler fans and their team - they get suckered in every time, season after season.

I honestly still think Lucic will have more points and assuredly a better +/- than Neal. Neal is putting a great deal of pressure on himself to produce, saying last year was a hiccup. Lucic is doing the exact opposite, saying he feels loose, comfortable with no major expectations for the season other than to help the team any way he can. If heís not scoring, oh well, heíll hit and punch faces. If Nealís not scoring, what does he provide? My prediction:

Neal: 13G / 10A / 23P / -25
Lucic: 19G / 12A / 31P / +10

I think Lucic becomes what many hoped Brouwer would be; a great front net presence on PP2 and a solid bottom 6 guy.
