Matheson. Can't. Stop. Thinking. About. Keith. Gretzky.

It's bordering on obsessive.

If they give Hunter the job, will they do a thorough search for a new mascot or do the hire internally?

I just boggles the mind. What are the odds that every employee of an organization and every media member covering said organization would have below average IQ? You would think somebody would slip through the "no good" filter. Wasn't there a sci-fi short story and/or movie back in the 70's/80's where everyone was tested and if your IQ was too high, you were liquidated? Well, it's actually happening up there!

Unfortunately the Oilers faithful are beginning to turn on the bad water carriers. It took them long enough to figure out the media there is just a mouthpiece for the organization.

They'll snap back in line as soon as the oilers win two in a row again. In the preseason.

What we’ve seen in the last four years with Bob Green and Keith Gretzky in charge of amateur drafting is a major turnaround, so much so that Bakersfield and the prospect fool is packed with extremely promising players like Tyler Benson, Caleb Jones, Evan Bouchard and Dmitri Samorukov.
Staples still pushing the cupboards are full line.

At least they're consistent:

Quote:
Vancouver also has a contract they might like to unload, that of Louie Eriksson, a finesse winger who has three years left on a deal that pays him $6 million per. Eriksson will be 34 this year. He’s coming off a season of 11 goals in 81 games which is definitely the new normal for him. Expect no bounce back on the attack from Eriksson. He may, in fact, have more negative value than Lucic, as Lucic is three years younger and he’s also got the intimidation aspect to his game. What does Eriksson offer? Can he help you win? Seems like a very well paid version of Tobias Rieder or Ty Rattie at this point. The Oilers may actually have some leverage in this deal.

Vancouver has little in the way of major contracts right now, so plenty of cap space. Could Edmonton move Lucic without have to take on Eriksson? Dare to dream. Brandon Sutter anyone?

(Emphasis mine)

Yeah, they'll say this every off-season. If it's Keith, I think we'll get a bit more of if this summer than usual

But if they hire another GM, he'll be the greatest
Connor back to health will make them the best team on ice
Some rookie having a great pre-season is the ticket to the promise land
Etc etc

They talk sense when the season is over, the results are in and there's no next game to hide behind. Like every year before, they'll be back to the overconfident morons we're accustomed to in no time

I love how sensitive they are to Toronto media ...

Is it bashing? When you have a full on tire fire you don't need to bash, you merely need to observe and comment.

I think the issue is that Staples and others in Edmonton think Chiarelli was the tire fire and that Gretzky and MacTavish have done an amazing job building an old team in Bakersfield so they have cured the rot. Until they come to the realization that the tire fire starts with the owner and goes all the way down to fans and media they are always going to be sensitive to justified criticism.

Really who will be surprised if by late summer after another top 10 pick addition, new GM, and new head coach, that Oilers fans and media start talking about how the Oilers will be better than the Flames in the 2019/20 season? It's really just a matter of time.

Who can forget such classics as "Puljujarvi and McDavid will be passing on a level never seen in the NHL before" and "They will be the Golden State Warriors of the NHL", and of course everyone's favorite, "It's not a matter of if, but how many".

I don't think everything you listed needs to happen before this talk starts gaining steam. Pick any 2

McDavid healthy
Top 10 Pick
Bouchard
Anyone on the AHL roster that scores in Pre-Season
New Coach
New GM
New jersey
Any trade of anyone that underperformed, regardless of return
Any FA signing that has scored more than 20

I think they're counting on Bouchard to get top 4 minutes, they've already stencilled him in. So again they've gone from development to fan pressure to throw him in right away.

To me he's pretty much the definition of boom or bust and nothing in between, in a skating league he's got a big thing to over come.
