Clogged sink

What about one of the gel based drain unclogging products? They've worked really well for me in the past as the gel seems to grab on and dissolve what the issue is.

I had this problem awhile ago, none of the uncloggers, vinegar, etc worked. I tried snaking it out but there was a section of the pipe that came to a T and the snake would only go up, the clog was down. Under that T there was an inspection hole where the drain pipe leads to the main line. Pulled out the inspection plug, rammed a garden hose down to get out the big clog, turned on hot water to the hose (from the washer hookup) and then sprayed the whole thing out while pulling the hose back up out of the hole. There was some nasty stuff in that pipe.

So the drain seems to be draining quicker after two rounds of dish soap. That said when plunging I’ve managed to blow through the seal where PVC meets cast iron.

I have a male pvc end screwing into a female t junction that is cast iron.

This junction is new to me. When I go to fix this would teflon tape on the pvc be enough to fix this issue?

Can I put Teflon on pvc?

I had the same issue with my sink about a year ago...slow draining and an odd smell.

17$ for a manual snake from lowes and it was clean as a whistle.

I should clarify - it is ABS pipe.

If you don’t have the time nor energy to try things outside of filling your sink with soap and water to try and fix your issue, just call a plumber.

The snake cures a lot of problems with clogs.



Magnets are also handy, in the case of having half a dozen butter knives stuck down there..

I had issues with a slow and clogged drain in a basement shower for a few years. Tried this and haven’t had any issues since. Also worked great on a stubbornly clogged bathroom sink.

That's basically a plunger on steriods, he already blew out an O ring with a regular plunger. I had the same problem, when I was plunging I opened up a small crack in the PVC pipe and had to replace that section.
