Dinos start the regular season with a 41-31 victory over the Golden Bears which was capped by a pick-six by cornerback Deane Leonard on the final play of the game. Dinos coach Wayne Harris was not pleased with the effort last night, however.

The ending capped an ugly, penalty-filled contest where the two teams combined for 51 penalties totalling 395 yards while the Dinos offence went cold in the second half, scoring just four points.

"I think we had enough penalties for a whole season tonight, not just a game," Harris went on. "It was very sloppy, and we had some bench management issues. We have to do a better job of getting coaches and players on the same page, and that starts with me. We'll work on fixing a lot of those things for next week."

I’m glad someone posts this. Thanks dp.

So what are the “bench management issues”?

Unfortunately, the article didn't go into details regarding the bench management issues, but I would assume it probably means not having the right players on the field for certain plays and/or discipline issues (too much trash talk etc.). Harris is a no-nonsense guy and he'll get things straightened out in short order.

Dinos home opener goes this Friday night at McMahon as they host the Manitoba Bisons. It's early, but the winner of this game will move into first place in Canada West pending the results of the Regina - Alberta game this weekend.

Go Dinos!

Dinos improve to 2-0 on the season as they defeat the Manitoba Bisons 24-10 in front of just over six thousand fans at McMahon last night. Dinos were kept off the scoreboard in the 2nd half, but the Calgary defense limited the Bisons to only three points in the final 30 minutes.

Coach Harris post-game...

"We had some big plays, but we also had some missed opportunities. I am pleased with the fact that we battled for the full game."

Also, with Alberta edging Regina 18-17 last night, Dinos are alone in first place in Canada West.

Dinos looked a bit shaky in the first quarter, but definitely were dominant in the 2nd half. Good crowd considering the somewhat threatening weather...it would be nice if some of them come back for the second and subsequent games.

The Huskies drubbed UBC last night, so we have 1 2-0 team (Calgary) 1 0-2 team (UBC) and everybody else at 1-1.

Dinos are at UBC on Saturday to take on the winless T-Birds as they are certainly missing Michael O'Connor at the QB position.

Close game at Thunderbird Stadium as the Dinos lead 14-13 at the half (Calgary trailed 13-0 late in the 2nd quarter but scored two late majors in the final three minutes of the 1st half).

UBC scored the first 13 points, Calgary scored the next 47.
