Islanders upgrade on defense

I like this deal. Green is decent and Ceci is a significant upgrade. Hurts to lose Lauzon but we have a few better prospects.

Isles on defense:

Goligoski (74) - Stralman (73)
Ceci (73) - Daley (71)
Jensen (67) - Prosser (66)
IR: Davidson (67)

Still looking to shore up that bottom pair.

I was looking longer term with this deal. Ceci is a good defender this year but I wonder if that will continue. I think he could rate down next year and at 6 mil/year I didn't like that scenario.


I like all three guys that I received in the deal. Bouwmeester is experienced and still serviceable for a couple of seasons and Fonstad is a guy I wanted in the later rounds of the draft but he was gone. Lauzon will be a player at some point in my opinion.

I still see Ceci as an unproven commodity. Assuming that he isn't out too long with injury, he'll get a chance to be Ottawa's #1 defenseman this year and some guys just flourish with that extra responsibility. He's really hated in Ottawa but I don't know why, he's a decent defender in my books.
