Oilers admiring themselves for ousting Vancouver for the division only to get KOd by Vegas from the WC1 seed would be funny.

If you aren't cheating, you aren't trying. I can't really fault them given the league allows it and we have seen so many cap circumventions over the years by several teams from the Oilers, Blackhawks, Lightning, Leafs, etc. If the Flames were in their situation I would hope they do the same as there's not a trophy awarded for being the nice guys of the league.

I hope they win the Cup! As it means Edmonton won't.
Go Vegas!

They are smart to take advantage of it.
A lacerated spleen was a serious injury with somewhat fortunate timing for Vegas, and their GM and team were smart enough to take advantage of the situation.
Now hopefully the can pass LA and play the Oilers in round 1

A 2nd in a better draft next year is absolutely worth more than a 3rd in a draft with mediocre depth this year.

Disagree and don’t like the approach to intentionally circumvent the intention and spirit of the rules and salary cap. If 90% of the other teams don’t do something, doesn’t that tell you something?
Sometimes just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should, this feels like one of those things. You’re rationale is akin to breaking laws because you won’t get caught so shrug!
It’s okay to call them slimeball cheaters if that’s what they are. If they don’t want their feelings hurt they don’t have to be slimeball cheaters.

But are 90 percent of the other teams not doing it because they find it morally repugnant, or because they don't happen to have a high-priced player injured long enough that they can milk it?

The thing with Vegas is that they seem to knowingly acquire those kinds of players.
Max Pacioretty
Mark Stone
Tomas Hertl
Jack Eichel
Probably others I am not thinking of.
I have no doubt that this was always an active part of their strategy and not just a situation that they happened to find themselves in.

Correct. Pretty easy for a doctor and player to spin additional rest time for whatever injury.
It’s making a mockery of the NHL and I personally believe the NHL will move to address it.

They also traded Dadonov for Weber's LTIRetirement contract, when they needed cap space.
Lehner also got sent to Robidas island after his game started to drop. I could be barking up the wrong tree here, but the chronic hip injury came at a very opportune moment cap wise.
