Magic number in points. Top is the number of points needed for the team to eliminate the Flames, so the Flames tragic number. Bottom in the Flames magic number to pass that team.

it measures total points that a team needs in order to eliminate the other team - including points that you earn plus points that the other team doesn't earn. Once you get to zero, you've eliminated them.

So the Jets need a combination of 16 points that they earn or the Flames lose, and they eliminate us. We need a combination of 25 points to eliminate them.

So the CGY/WPG game is literally a 4 point game because if the Flames beat the Jets in regulation, the Flames earn 2 plus the Jets lost 2, so the Flames' number drops by 4 points.

This is the most logical way to look at it - trying to guess what record you need is pointless, because you don't know what record the other team will have either. Also, what is a game in hand worth, etc?

With this, it's a simple race to zero. And you can see the gap (16 to 25), plus, it is clear when you aproach zero, that you're getting close.

I am still holding out hope that the home game against Nashville is meaningful.

You'd be hard pressed to ask for a friendlier stretch. Whether they make hay while the sun shines is a different point together.

It's over peeps. They will lose tonight and you can just roll the fat lady out to sing us to sleep.

You're in the wrong thread. There's about 50 other threads for that.

Depending on what the Jets do, they currently can suffer a couple losses in regulation. Is it ideal, nope.

If the flames go 8-2 in their last ten that gets them to 95 which should be enough. Worrying day to day is pointless. Losses to the kings and knights are expected. They need to win the 8 games against non-playoff teams.

Winnipeg would still get in at 6-4 if the Flames go 8-2. We basically need to win out to get in

Jets are on pace for 94.5 points. Year to date they are trending for 5-4-1.

The flames have to make up 5 points on the Jets in 10 games. Is it a big hill, yes. If they climb that hill, the flames could be the playoff dark horse.

I'm not sure that they need to win out, but they definitely need to get on a winning streak of some sort. Honestly, I'd take 3 games now. Win tonight and hope the Jets lose.

Having a head to head with them helps bigly. Making up 3 points in 9 games doesn't sound so bad.

I guess we are hoping for SEA wins over NSH in both of their back to backs?

Or a split to keep our options open?

Pretty sure it is a huge if, but it does always seem like teams that get in on a win streak seem to go farther, so if it happens it could be AMAZING.

If I were to win the lottery that would also be AMAZING, odds of either happening are probably pretty similar at this point, but its 1 game at a time.
