I think Sutter would love him too-big, western Canadian boy.

I'm a big Preds fan, and I would say Jeannot is my favorite player on the team. He does every you want a player to do and I wouldn't doubt if he brings it to another level in the playoffs. He's often awarded as the hardest working player of the game.
Plus, if there were any forwards that would excel under Sutter, it would be him.
But with all that said, I don't think he's a top 6 players. I do think last year as an anomaly in terms of point totals.

Meier’s due a $10M QO on a one year deal. He has significant negotiating leverage. He’s controlled, but with an asterisk, I’d say.

So he's a low rent Tkachuk. Not a unicorn - maybe a show pony.

Bertuzzi's season has been outright bad, but maybe there's some hidden value? As is he's got 5 points in 17 games - which, yuck.
xGF%: 50.55 (4th best on team)
GF%: 36.84 (6th worst on team)
SCF%: 49.27 (3rd best on team)
So maybe there's some hidden value in there...but with numbers like that, I feel he'd fit right into our culture of generating chances and not scoring on them. Acquisition cost would have to be dirt cheap. Depth pick only.

Sabres got 3 good young pieces. That's what SJ will want.

Add to that the fact that as a rebuilding team, SJ will have zero interest in Kylington or Mangiapane. To them, those players are just cap dumps. They will want players younger than 25, picks, and prospects. We would have to pay extra to send either of those players the other way.

With a 10M QO, he’s not even a low rent Tkachuk, he’s just a less skilled Tkachuk.

Even rebuilding teams have to ice a lineup. Also, they will have to take salary back to get a deal done. And both of those guys will have value for them to move back out in the future.
So yes, I think they would be interested in those guys.

I just don't see any way we could make Meier work with that salary

Can't whoever pick up Meier file for team arbitration and block him from accepting the QO? Not sure what that number is but it should be far less than $10M.
Mangiapane should still have value too. If the Sharks are already near the bottom of the league and they trade Meier and Karlsson, how does Mangipane ruin their rebuild plans? Is the 2024 draft worth a complete tank job too? Probably not compared to this draft.

Depends on what Meier gets. Still possible he does not get $10 mil per year. I wouldn't want him at that much anyways.
Problem with trading for him is the prospects we lose. Hard to dump Toffoli or Backlund or Coleman to keep Meier when you deplete the prospects trading for him.

Yeah Meirs a no go.
But the more I think about Brad Trelivings body of work and what's out there, I've got Jacob Chycrun penciled in as trees big acquisition. I personally don't care too much about Chuchrun or him being on the Flames but it's the move that makes the most sense given the assets Tree has to work with. Especially if you're going to pivot from another d man like Hanifin next year.
I'd much rather a stab at a similar thing to a Tolvanen claim at forward anyhow. We got some really good kids coming up needing spots real quick. So it makes sense tree would go after a young D man. IMO.

Bertuzzi would be a great add. He’s got size, speed, good hands, and he’s gritty as hell. Perfect guy for the playoffs. I feel we would all love him very quickly.

Until he quits on the team and decides he‘s only going to play home games.

Just spitballin’, but what if Tre was able to negotiate a deal with the Meier camp that pays him $8.5 -9 mil/yr? Assuming someone like Mang goes back in the deal (or gets traded elsewhere), and Lucic comes off the books next year, perhaps it’s beginning to look more palatable? There would still be some manoeuvres to be done, but Meier looks to be settling in as a ppg winger, so that’s not a bad cap hit going forward…..

Need to be thinking cheaper. For 2 years at least. Go find some value. We have our sunk assets already.

The raises to Hubby and Weegar kick in next year, Lucic already spent and then some.
