NDP are shooting themselves in the foot.
As John Candy said in Cool Runnings. "You choked, it was yours for the taking and you choked. You were ready and you choked . . . I’ll tell you something, you had all better figure out how to stay loose out there. That’s something I can’t help you with."

Joe Ceci came up and bumble####ed his way through his speech. I can honestly not remember a single thing that sparked the crowd or sunk in for me.
It's surprising Notley didn't come. She had a very fantastic speech last Fall. She got a rousing standing ovation.
I can barely remember what Joe was even talking about.
Smith is on right now. Her speech was the typical fair. She's pandering hard to rural.
But she has stood out by willing to do a 20 minute QnA from the crowd and is handling herself well, off the cuff. She is well spoken I'll give her that.
She's talking RCMP right now and it's not going over as well.

Joe Ceci is a dumb weasel. I wish he wasn't a prominent member of the party.

Joe Ceci is thicker than pig####. He is easily that party's weakest link.
If he wasnt a Government employee he'd be busy asking people if they'd like fries with that.

Anyone care to weigh in on ds calling for more NG power plants?
And who holds a microphone like that?

The reality is we don't have a lot of choices. Hydro is limited here. Grid inter-ties and Site C can help, but I'm not sure it's enough. Wind and solar will require battery storage on the scale of 5-20 days capacity for Dec-January, plus require much larger installations to charge those batteries for dispatch at a time of year when wind and solar don't produce much. I just don't think it is possible right now(the battery alone would be a major cost, and nothing that large exists now).
Add to that the increased electricity demand with EV's and electrifying heating, and you have a situation where are choices are nuclear, coal, or gas, needed to be built in the next decade, to expand capacity 10%(roughly 1.5 Shepard energy plants). So you can see we will need at least one more.

I think we should be looking more at nuclear then things like coal and NG, but then again Smith is a lobbyist for O&G. Also the federal government is allocating funds to build SMRs so I guess that alone disqualifies that idea.
I was more upset at her saying that renewables are not something that we should be looking at. Then talks about requiring bonds to clean them up when they get to end of life, as if she did not just promise $20 billion to clean up oil wells that by law need to be cleaned up anyways.

Yet again with conservatives, everything is a black and white option. Solar is no good at all, so is wind, so we must use Natural Gas.
Actually, they are mutually beneficial. Obviously without energy storage, gas will still be needed in the evenings since we don't have the ability for hydro. Just more pandering to her O&G base BS.
Now, nuclear instead of gas? Sure, lets check that out as well.
And her comment on the Brooks panels being useless and taking up good farm land. LOL are you kidding me?

Look, we can't be putting something on land that isn't producing much over the winter...
