Look what Scort Darling got with Carolina. The guy was the back up for Chicago and got $16.6M x 4 years. This is very much in line with what starting goaltenders get.

You and I have already had a similar conversation in the Rittich thread and it’ll probably end up the same way. This is what I figured Koskinen would get and he got it. I have a number in my mind on what Rittich might get and we’ll just have to see what happens.
This doesn't work unless you tell everyone the number you're thinking.

So when they do trade Talbot, who would be their backup?

Since Chiarelli is in such a giving mood maybe he could twist Tre's rubber arm and get Smith for their 1st.

You’re right, it’s a little lopsided. Talbot and a first for Neal.

Oilers worried about their backup situation. Better sweeten the point and throw in Smith, if they're willing to retain a bit of Talbot's salary

With the extended break coming up after tomorrow's game, I wouldn't be surprised if Talbot has played his last game for the Oilers.

Here's the best one-two combo on the oiler's board:

1st guy: I wonder who's ganna be our backup next year?

2nd guy: Koskinen.

LOL at least some of the fans get it up there.

I think Chia is trying to run the team out of Edmonton and go to Seattle, and Rexall Place will become the home of the Oil Kings.

Relocating from Edmonton to Winnipeg is more of a lateral move.

You know that Talbot will become much better after they trade him. I'd seriously consider trading for him, and didn't Treliving try pretty hard to land him from New York?

Look at Dubnyk. After he got treatment for his Oiler induced PTSD, he's been very decent.

I wonder if the fear really is that no amount of money is going to attract anybody to the team and therefore they are now overpaying and early on before other teams can compete.... it is the only possible explanation I have. Knowing everyone had to agree to the signing is amazing.

As for Rittich, if this sets the bar too high, you sign him to a 1 year deal for whatever the cap lets you sign him for, even if it is a significant overpayment. A show me you can do this back to back years. If he performs then you lock him up long term and if not, you saved yourself multiple years of overpaying for a average goalie. I figured the Oil would do something similar.
Not worried. Rittich seems like the type of guy that would play for the 2nd place Flames for a bucket of bananas.

Totally agree, would love to see what he could do once he gets away from the Oiler's stench. Could probably be had on the cheap too.

I see Buffalo, St Louis, Philadelphia, Columbus sniffing around at him too.

You could literally copy and paste this entire Koskinen signing thread into the E=NG thread and it would blend in perfectly lol

Scott Darling had years of NHL experience.

I saw this briefly at work and thought it was 4.5M over 3 years, not 4.5M per for 3 years.

What a gong show. It's like watching Trump... every time you think you've seen it all, he does something even more stupid.

And to think the clowns (Klowe and MacT) are giving approvals for this, they are even bigger fools than we give them credit for.

Hopefully the 6x6 Chiasson signing is next.
