This club is completely different though for sure.
Goaltending had a lot to do with it. Smith wasn't the same after the injury, and Rittich wasn't ready.

I love Ferland, I want him get paid big on his next contract so he can set himself and his family up. But I don't want it to be the Flames to pay for that big contract.

Gulutzan was not shown the door because of goaltending.

Quick, trade for him now! He's already in town. He'd be the perfect rental for us before he goes off and gets a huge paycheque somewhere.

Love that guy. One of my favourite Flames of recent years

Spencer Foo, Matt Taorima and Brett Pollack for Ferland and Adam Fox. Not enough I know but...

We flip Fox to the Rangers as part of a Kevin Hayes deal

I don't know what their record was during the post-break collapse last year (I guess around a .400 pts percentage). But Gee Giminy Gillikers, even if the Flames went .500 the rest of the way, they'd still get 101 pts.

It's a pretty unfamiliar spot for this organization to be in. I'd even go so far as to say it feels... good.

Hopefully they're not gassed by the time the playoffs roll around.
I hope their first round series is one of the later starts for a change. They usually start on the first day of POs in the past. A 3rd or 4th day start would be ideal, as exciting as it is to get going. We want to go deep.

Did the Flames bye week and the All-Star break run together last year? I wonder if it's better having one break like they are, rather than two separate breaks.

No, they changed it this year so they coincide for every team - before or after the All-Star break. Don't think the teams were happy with random breaks throughout the season for each individual team. This way it's consistent at least.

10 teams have their break Jan. 20 - Jan. 24.
21 teams have their break Jan. 27 - Jan. 31.

I didn't say he was. I said it was a big part of the record of the Flames in the end. GG deserved to be fired. But he also had bad goaltending.
